Raymond Fong Obituary

Raymond T. Fong Ray Fong was born on November 1, 1928 and died peacefully in his sleep on February 18, 2006. Ray was a native San Franciscan who loved his family and friend and shared his love of Chinese culture. He was also known for his love of travel, theater and his impressing culinary skills. He was an active volunteer with the Hung On Tong Benevolent Association, Nam Kue Alumni Association, a generous supporter of the Chinatown YMCA and the Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA. For the last 59 years, with the help of his Francisco Jr. High home room classmates, he organized their Annual Room 17 Class Reunions, Class of 1946. Ray served in the US Army during the Korean War. He received an accounting degree from Golden Gate University and worked for Swinerton & Walberg for 28 years, including four years as controller in their Hawaii office. Preceded in death by brothers, Theodore, Frank and Ferris. He is survived by his loving brothers, Hanley and Filbert; sisters-in-law, Vera, Florence, Edna and Mildred; nephews, Craig, Gregory (Carolyn), Rodney (Patricia) and Kirby (Lisa); nieces, Marsha, Debbie (Garth), Sylvia (Robert), Barbara (Greg), Eileen (Norman), Glenda (Terry) and Wendi Rae (Christopher); 15 grand nephews and grand nieces and numerous relatives and friends. Friends are invited to the Wake on March 4, 2006, Saturday from 7pm-8pm. Funeral Service will be held on March 5, 2006, Sunday at 10am, both at Halsted N. Gray - Carew & English, 1123 Sutter St., SF. Interment will immediately follow at Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 and Skyline Blvd., San Mateo. The family requests donations to the Chinatown YMCA, 855 Sacramento St., SF, CA 94108 or the Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA Senior Program, 220 Golden Gate Avenue, SF, CA 94102-3798. HALSTED N. Ray,

The world is a better place because of you. Your gentle and kind demeanor and ready smile made all of us smile too. You were a generous man who had a way of making each of us feel special. You are now at peace, and we will miss you more than words can ever say. Thank you for being a part of my life.

I will always remember "Uncle" Ray's extreme kindness and generosity to my parents, brothers, and me. He had a way of making everyone feel special. We will all miss him dearly, but he will always have a very special place in our hearts.
