Passed away on Feb. 11, 2013 at UCSF in San Francisco, at the age of 59, from Hemachromatosis.
Richard was the son of Elvin E. ("Harry") and Lois G. Harris. He was born on Feb. 26, 1953 in San Luis Obispo and lived in Mariposa for 45 years. He completed three years at Merced College after going on a two year mission in Texas for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He sang several tenor solos during the time he was a member of the Mariposa Community Chorus. He ran for Congress three times on the Libertarian ticket.
In San Francisco, Richard was a security guard for almost 10 years at the Embarcadero Center and 425 Market St. He was one of the counters for Golden Gate Audibon's annual Christmas bird count. Despite 7-1/2 years of the illness, he was a Bay Ward Missionary and a Temple worker in Oakland. He enjoyed politics, astronomy, the computer robotic dinosaurs and "Pleo Chatroom", photography, origami, cooking, walking and exploring the city as well as attending numerous Commonwealth Club lectures.
He is survived by his wife of 27-1/2 years, Mary Liz and step-daughter Lorraine M. Hunter. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Leonard.
It is strongly believed that his great sense of humor, long walks, even-temperedness, kindness, following "The Word of Wisdom" and love of Jesus Christ all contributed to his living 3-1/2 years longer than the Doctors' expectations in 2006!
A graveside service will be held Sat, March 23 at 1pm at the Mariposa Town Cemetery, Highway 140 & Joe Howard Rd, Mariposa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions would be great appreciated to the Jon C. Fremont Hospital, P.O. Box 1093, Mariposa, CA 95338

We loved Richard and always enjoyed spending time with Mary Liz and Richard when we lived in San Francisco. We have been friends for over 24 years and we cherish the friendship that we have enjoyed with these dear people! He was so even-tempered and kind, and his sense of humor was wonderful! We will miss him.
