Richard R. Jensen

Richard R. Jensen passed away peacefully at Brookdale Assisted Living Home in Vacaville, California on June 26, 2016. Richard was 78 years old.

Richard was born and raised in Oakland, California. He was a June graduate of Oakland High School class of 1955. He Graduated in 1960 with his Bachelors Degree in Business from the University of California in Berkeley.

Richard joined the Oakland Police Department in 1965. During Richards career with the Oakland PD he received the "Blue Star" medal of honor for injuries sustained during the cowardly ambush attack on he and his partners patrol car by the Black Panther Party on April 6, 1968. The Black Panthers were out kill a "Cop" that night after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. The ambush attack is known today as one of the city of Oakland's bloodiest gun battles in history. Richard and his partner Nolan Darnell along with all the other Oakland Police Officers that were involved that night are true Heros for all that they endured protecting the streets of Oakland.

Richard was promoted to Sergeant with OPD in 1971 and retired from Oakland in 1982. Richard was very proud to be a part of such a wonderful organization as the Oakland Police Department.

Richard moved to Jackpot, Nevada in 2005. But as the old saying goes: You can take the boy out of the Bay but you can not take the Bay out of the Boy. Richard was a Bay Area boy through and through. Richard was an avid sports fan. He loved his bay area teams such as the SF Giants, Oakland A's and the SF 49ers. Richard was a 49er faithful when the Niners were not even cool. A true "49 Faithful". Red and Gold fever forever!

Richard had a deep love for the ponies and enjoyed the excitment of the race track. Whether it be Bay Meadows, Golden Gate Fields or his home town track of Pleasanton, California. You could always find Richard with race form in hand always hoping to reach that life changing score.

Richard is survived by his wife of 32 years Delores R. Jensen of Jackpot, Nevada. Richard had four children Richard Jensen of Brentwood, California. Ronald Jensen of Chico, California, Robert Jensen of Paradise California and his daughter Kimberly Jensen of Fairfield, California. Richard had six Grand- children and Three Great-Grandchildren.

A private Celebration of life for Richard will be at a later date.
