Richard MacDougall Obituary

Richard W MacDougall
August 23, 1926 - September 18, 2021
After 95 active years, Dad passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021. Born on August 23, 1926, he was a member of the Greatest Generation. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary. A proud San Francisco native, he grew up in SF's Eureka Valley. Son of Jessie and Louis MacDougall, youngest brother of Bill and Don MacDougall. Father to Richard MacDougall (Julie), Terry Lynch and Laura MacDougall. Grandfather to Michael (Katie) Lynch, Daniel (Karima) Lynch, Christopher (Katie) MacDougall and Stacey MacDougall. Great-Grandfather to Cora and Thomas Lynch and Danny and Jack MacDougall.

Dad graduated from Mission High School. At 17 yrs. old, he obtained his mother's permission and eagerly joined the Army Air Corps/Air Force and served in Europe during World War II. After the war, he took advantage of the GI Bill, attending USF and Golden Gate University.

Rich and Mary were married at St. Dominic's Church in 1950. He raised his family in the Westlake District of Daly City. He retired after working for over 38 years as the Western Regional Division Manager of a company now known as Cemex in Redwood City.

He made sure we all knew the importance of family, education, Hetch Hetchy water, the difference between concrete and cement and appreciating all things that the Bay Area and California had to offer. Numerous friendships, some decades long, were cherished. He was a founding member of the 18th and Castro 1940's Gang.

Dad was an avid 49er and SF Giants fan, enjoyed golf, Big Band music, dominoes, Pedro, and a vodka martini straight up. He started playing the game of bocce ball at the Daly City Doelger Center in his late 80's with the SF SIRS Branch 4. He was a member of the SF Bonsai Society, VFW and Native Sons of the Golden West, Twin Peaks Parlor. He felt fortunate to be able to travel extensively around the world with Mom.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at St. Dominic's Church in San Francisco on Oct. 19, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. Donations can be made to St. Dominic's Church or the charity of your choice.

Rich is still a man that goes his own right way. Wwith that disciplined good conscience , you could count on as much as you can trust yourself. Rich is also still a builder, and you can trust he has a new project in the afterlife. I will miss him here. Condolances to the family gang.
