Richard Rabin Obituary

Richard Rabin

September 2, 1926 - June 17, 2018

Richard Rabin passed away peacefully at his home in Portola Valley on June 17th at the age of 91.  An electrical engineer, he was involved in the development of speech recognition computer programming. He is survived by his wife, Carol Price Rabin; his children, Jeffrey Rabin, Linda Judge, and Michele Rabin; and his grandchildren Zoe Judge, and Silas White.  He was predeceased by his son Neil Rabin.

Dick was born in Bronx, New York, attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, served in the U.S. Navy and earned a MS degree from Columbia University. Dick worked for Sperry Rand, Fairchild, and Varian Associates and later founded a consulting company, The Ladera Group.

Dick was an avid tennis player, and loved opera, classical music and jazz. He enjoyed traveling around the world with his wife, Carol, but was always delighted to return home to the Bay Area. Friends and family remember Dick as a "class act," a sharp dresser, a true gentleman, and someone with a deep sense of caring about democratic values and fairness.
