Dear Dad; I miss you so much. You have always been and always will be my hero. We had a wonderful life, you, mom and the five of us girls. No other man could have done it. I believe you were an angel,my hero the best man on this earth. we were lucky enough to grow up with your parents (our grand parents).
You and mom gave us a wonderful childhood. And when mom died, A horrible time for all of us but especially for you dad. You were an angel for all of us, including mom and when mom passed at an early age of 64, you were so alone. Sure you had all your daughters with there own homes and families. Although I tried to get you to move to nevada with us, you were not ready for a change like that. You were lost without mom and so sad and depressed we were very worried about you, Then came along another angel named Nga. Then you were happy again and . My biggest regret is living so far away from you and mom and then Nga because my children never got to know you like I knew and loved your parents. I am truly sorry to my children and to myself for missing out on so much. Living in Nevada meant no one invited us to ThanksGiving, or even your year memorial I didn't know about or the party in your honor that I was not invited to. Living far away from a perfect mom and dad and then a perfect mom (nga) and dad. Nga is an angel sent by God to give you so much love and devosion. Mom (nga)
is the most giving, thoughtful, loving wife one could possibly have as well as a wonderful, caring Mother she will always be to me. I love you daddy, I miss you so much. I hope you and mom hear me talking to you. especially when I am so overwhelmed and lonely and have no one I can talk to. It helps to know I can talk to you daddy. The smartest
calmest, loving man in the world, now in heaven still watching over us. I'm with you everyday daddy and alway's will be.
Love, Karen

Memories of my brother Richard. I have so many memories I will share a few.
Richard, my sister Sue and myself were fortunate that we had very loving parents. My mother’s parents had purchased a large parcel of land and provided each of their children a lot to build a home. My dad constructed a beautiful home for us. He had a good job with the P.G&E Company and our life was very comfortable. I can remember Christmas was special. Rich was the leader in our plan on Christmas Eve to sneak in to the living room to see if Santa had made his way down the fireplace to deliver our Christmas presents. Christmas was very special to Richard, and continued through the years, on his very last Christmas he had to decorate the Christmas tree.
On this day Rich came home with a bruised and bloody face and arms. His only concern was could his scooter be fixed. The pin holding the front wheel had come out sending him flying down the hill. Rich was always fearless. At the age of six he would go on the stage in front of a room filled with children and their parents and read childrens stories. One time I was really concerned I knew he had to go to the bathroom. I told the teacher but Rich just kept on reading until he was finished. Through his life Rich always finished what he started.
I was in the Navy reserve when the Korea war started and I tried to talk Rich in to joining the Navy Reserve but no he had to be a Marine and less than a month after he joined he was called up and spent his time as a Marine MP. I believe this experience made him want to be a Police Officer.
I loved waterskiing and each summer I would spend time at Clear Lake. After work on Friday Rich would board a seaplane at Sausalito and fly to Clear Lake and on Sunday evening he would fly back to the city. Rich later acquired his pilot’s license and become a partner in an airplane. I have a fear of flying but I felt completely comfortable flying with him.
Rich always had a great compassion for people. When our father left us he insisted that we go to our mothers at lunchtime and spend time with her. We had been doing this for over a year when one day there was a note on the kitchen table, which read, “Boys, I had to go to a seniors meeting your lunch is in the ice box”.
I could write a book on my memories of Richard. I was very fortunate to have a brother like Richard and I am forever grateful for the unending love and affection Nga gave to him.

Richard was an honorable man,a gentleman in every sense of the word. Always honest and fair and able to accept life on life's terms ,never complaining even when he experienced some of the toughest breaks a man could have had ,deaths of family ,separations and devastating illnesses ,He loved his whole family and his life. Richard fought to the end of his last illness to keep living that life and was an inspiration to all of us who saw him fight that last battle. I mourn his earthly passing, know he is in a better place, his suffering is over. I miss our conversations ,I miss our golf dates, I miss his presence..He was true friend to me.

Dad, I have so many memories, its hard to share. When the motorcycle policeofficers came up that day , the smell and creeking of the leather brought me right back to the little girl running to your arms coming home from work. When the piper played Amazing Grace I was proud of our strong Celtic hertiage.I guess thats where our Scottish Sims stubborness comes from. No matter what happened in between,it made me the stong person I am today. I am so thankful we had 13 years together. It is never enough. I was always so proud of you. Nga made you so Happy. The best compliment you ever said to me was. " I wish I could take credit for the woman you have become" That meant the world to me. Listening to the other girls, what I wouldn't have given for one of those piggy back rides or a bedtime time tuck in. I love You and will miss Dad. Love Kathe

Daddy, I truly believe that you were an Angel on earth. You were a gentle loving father. I am truly blessed that you fell in love with our mom and took us all, in those loving arms of yours. like a night and shining armer or what I said before an Angel. You were the kindest, smartest, gentle and humble man in the world. Even your officers loved you for those qualities and more. A true leader, a mentor. You were a hard working man that always made time for his family. Taught good family values. I will never forget the cute face you gave with one brow up and a crooked smile and eyes wide open, thinking"oh come on!!,or are you serious". Then there was your poker face that you had when saying something totally false just to stir up a little excitement. You were always there for me daddy, My true hero. You always will be. I truly believe your shoes cannot be filled. I've never been able to find anyone like you. (close, once) but you are truly a perfect man, there will be no more. I love you so much dad. I'm so glad you are in no more pain and are in heaven with mom that I miss and love so much, and Nana and Pa. I say goodbye for now dad, I'll be talking to you every day the same way I talk to Mom.
Your loving Daughter, Karen.

Pa,
I selfishly miss you so much. You were such a wonderful man and an inspiration to my life and how I want to live it. I know that you are in a better place with no pain and have no regrets of your life. I will miss our visits, emails and everything else about you.
I remember being very young and bragging to my friends that my Grandpa was once the Chief of police in Daily City. They would always say “Where’s that?” I didn’t care, I thought that was wonderful. Seeing how so many active and retired police officers came to remember you and tell wonderful stories made me even more proud to be your Granddaughter.
I’m not sure where I found this little poem, but I instantly thought of you. Life is short. They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. I will never forget you Pa, and I will always honor you. I am truely blessed to have had you in my life though not long enough. I love you so much.

Richard Sims swore me in as a Daly City Policeman on July 19, 1983. Although I've moved on with my law enforcement career to San Jose Police Department I will always remember that day in July. Rest in peace Chief.
