Richard Stern Obituary

Richard "Rich" A. Stern Passed away in December 2012 of complications from Parkinson's Disease. Rich was born in Fargo, North Dakota, the oldest of two sons born to Morris and Edith Stern. He grew up in Perry, Iowa, graduating from High School in 1948 and from the University of Iowa in 1952 where he received his Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree. Following military sevice as an officer in the US Air Force and serving in Korea, Rich began his business career as a Sales Counselor, first with General Electric and later with RCA residing in the Bay Area in San Francisco, Oakland and, since 1965, in San Mateo where he lived until his death. In 1974, Rich established TeleCenter a retail business in San Mateo which he owned and managed until his health began to fail in recent months. TeleCenter will continue to be operated by Rich's son, Jeff who has been associated with the store for over twenty years. Rich was an avid 49ers and Giants fan who enjoyed good food, good wine and traveling. In addition to son, Jeff, Rich is survived by his daughter, Lesley of Davis, CA and Lesley's three sons, Tyler, Ryan, and Shawn. He is also survived by his brother Jack and sister-in-law Mary Lou of Cherry Hills Village, CO, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Additionally, he is survived by his former wife, Joanne Overgaard of Roseville, CA. A celebration of Rich's life will be held at 11am on Friday, Jan 25, 2013 at Sneider, Sullivan & O'Connell's (977 S. El Camino Real) in San Mateo, CA.
