Riya Ryan Obituary

Riya (Shevkuta) Ryan Peacefully passed away surrounded by family at her home in Santa Rosa on Monday, April 18, 2011, she was 83. She was born to John and Klavdia Shevkuta, Ukrainian and Russian immigrants. Riya was the loving wife of 53 years to Tom, who predeceased her in 2003. Together they raised four children. Riya was a native of San Francisco, graduated from Balboa High school in 1945, proud Gangplank alumni, and retired from the Judicial Council for the State of California in 1986. Riya will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law Ann M. Ryan, of Santa Rosa. She is also survived by her four children: James (Sharon) Ryan, of Sonoma; Victoria Ryan (Robert Bihler) of San Jose; John T. Ryan of Guerneville; and Riya (John) Murray, of Santa Rosa; and by her grandchildren: Robert (Nicole) Ryan, Kristina Ryan, Alicia Bihler, Siobhan Ryan, Johnny Murray and Glenna Murray; also survived by Great grandchildren; Seamus Fallon and Kaileigh Hingtgen. We are most grateful to Riya's exceptional caregiver, Margery Van Dorf. Words cannot describe the immense love and companionship she provided for our mom. We also want to thank the staff at Memorial Hospice for all their kindness and compassionate care. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at 11:00am on Monday, April 25, 2011 at Duggan's Mission Chapel, 525 West Napa Street, Sonoma, CA 95476. Graveside service to follow at, Mountain Cemetery, Veteran's Memorial Park, 90 First Street West, Sonoma, CA 95476. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Memorial Hospice, 821 Mendocino Ave. Santa Rosa, CA 95401. Arrangements under the direction of Duggan's Mission Chapel, 525 West Napa Street, Sonoma, CA.
