Robert "Bob" Jack Calvillo passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025 at the age of 95, in Orangevale, CA. He was hard-working, devoted to his family and friends, easy-going, kind, caring, and humorous. He enjoyed photography, artwork, gardening, and Big Band music. On August 21, 1929, Robert was born in Oakland, CA. His parents Jack and Phyllis had 8 children (Connie Repetto, Irene Feragen and Gilbert Calvillo are the surviving siblings). Robert grew up in the Potrero district in San Francisco. In 1948, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was later sent to Korea, where he served a total of 5 years. In the Korean War, Robert worked as a Private First-Class field cook, then went into battle (2nd Infantry, 38th Field Artillery Battalion Bravo Company). Shortly after, he was captured as a Prisoner of War, and considered Missing-In-Action for 3 years, enduring extremely harsh conditions. In 1953, Robert finally returned home and appeared in the local SF newspaper with his overjoyed family. He attended the San Francisco Academy of Art College. Later, he worked at Kay Jewelers in the display department, where he met his wife Carmen (surviving spouse of 62 years). In the early 60s, they moved to Millbrae, CA, where Robert worked as a silk screener, and later owned businesses: California Video in Sunnyvale, CA, and Senior Jack's Mexican Restaurant in San Jose, CA. Robert and Carmen traveled and enjoyed entertaining at their home. In 1977, they had their only daughter Melissa, who later married their Son-In-Law Greg Deal. Robert was a VFW and KWVA member. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His Memorial, attended by many relatives, was in Folsom, CA. Correspondences can be sent to melislynn27@gmail.com.
