We are very saddened to share that Robert Chester Derbin Jr., JD, MBA, 76, died on December 7, 2024 in Napa, California from Parkinson's Disease. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Leslie (Widrow) Derbin.
Born on October 30, 1948 in Highland Park, Michigan, Bob was the son of Mary (O'Brien) Derbin and Robert Derbin, who predeceased him.
Survivors include 12 siblings, John (Barbara), Mary Ann, Loretta Serge (Bob), Patrick (Julia), Agnes Derbin-Caulfield (John), Kathleen, Virginia Kramasz (Ken), Edward (Tina), Christopher (Clare), Francis, Rita, and Ruth Muscat (Michael); and many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his brother George (Ann).
Moving to San Francisco from Detroit, Michigan, Bob worked for the Berkeley Public Library as the Financial Manager and Administrative Officer. He later worked for UCSF as a Capital Accounting Manager and UC Berkeley as an Administrative Director. After retiring, Bob became an adjunct business instructor for Napa Valley College, USF, and College of Marin.
Bob received his Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Detroit Mercy, a JD from Lincoln University, and MBA from San Francisco State.
Passionate about the arts, Bob was a longtime San Francisco Symphony subscriber and SFMOMA docent. After moving to Napa, he became a docent for di Rosa Center for Contemporary Arts. Bob enjoyed creating art, taking photographs, and writing poems. During their time together, Bob and Leslie visited many museums, watched first-rate movies, attended plays and concerts, and traveled.
A memorial will be held at di Rosa Center for Contemporary Arts on February 25, 2024 at 11 AM.
