November has always been a month of contrasts in our family. . .family birthdays and anniversaries of family members' deaths. It seems altogether fitting that a beloved friend's yahrzeit has come around in November as well. "Rosie" will always bring a smile to my face. I am thankful for all the laughter, intellectual banter, high school adventures and challenges we shared. We always had the ability to pick up as if we had never been apart. He was truly one of the good guys.

The obituary says it all. He was a truly great person. Was honored to know him from law school and through ACLU work together.

Dear Anne and others who loved Bob - I am sorry to not have been able to join you to mourn Bob. His memory is a blessing to me. He embodied all that was special about Heller Ehrman: brilliance, commitment to service, compassion, a dash of humility, drive, elegant prose, humor. As my memories of that time fade, moments that remain vivid are when Bob advised me, supported me, grieved with me, or gave me a gentle, needed, verbal, whack in the head. His leadership style of valuing people and parsing decisions in moral terms of what is the right thing to do by others, gave me confidence to do the same. I last saw him in the coffee annex of a bookstore, me working on my coaching certificate awaiting a client, he awaiting a call about Harvard. His phone rang, he asked me to watch his pile of newly-purchased books while he hurried outside to take it. I was transported in space and time to 333 Bush in the 1990s. Then I saw his feet. He wore shoes. The spell was broken.

I first met Bob in 1971 when he came to Corpus Christi College , Oxford , as a Rhodes Scholar and where we both were studying Politics , Philosophy and Economics . We became friends and I think both of us learned from the other about our two countries ( England and the USA ). After we graduated from Corpus , I travelled to the US and Bob , who was just starting at Harvard Law School , was my tour guide while I was in the Boston area .
We lost touch until 1989 ( except via college updates ) when I was living in Egypt and received a message to call Bob . One of his law clerk peers and his wife ( Henry & Lilian Parr ) had been riding by the Pyramids and Lilian had been thrown from her horse and had , at minimum , a broken shoulder , and had been taken to a less than salubrious local hospital . Henry knew Bob had international connections and we were that international connection . My wife was able to arrange proper care for Lilian , who recovered completely after surgery in Cairo .
Bob and I reconnected in 2018 , when he called and told me of his pancreatic cancer diagnosis . After a couple of phone calls , we both felt and told each other that it felt like we were picking up from where we had left off , forty five years ago . We finally met again in March 2020 at a Corpus reunion in New York , while Bob was in Cambridge for The Advanced Leadership Initiative , and had a wonderful time .
We continued to call or text each other - each time I was mightily impressed by the continuing breadth and depth of Bob´s interests .
Over our lives we did not spend much time together , but I will always treasure the quality of that time and our friendship .

I first met Bob (Rosie) the first week of junior high school in the cafeteria lunch line. We were best friends through high school. We shared our adolescent years and everything that went with it. He was a lot of fun to be around. I will always have fond memories of those times we shared. Randy Price

Rosie was the dearest of friends with my late husband Lynn in Terre Haute that continued while they attended GWU together. While i am not the keeper of those memories, i knew him to be a kind, caring brilliant man with unlimited curiosity and intelligence. He will be missed and on behalf of the Stelle family, all of whom loved and respected him, we send warm and caring sympathy to the Rosenfeld family.

Bob was and still remains one of m dearest friends! Death does not change this fact! Bob and I met in kindergarten so many years ago. Our friendship grew over the years, even though we lived in different parts of the country. Our families became close, and I will treasure the memories of our friendship forever! Rest in Peace, my Friend! Linda

Bob will always be "Rosie" to me. Big smile, gregarious, wry sense of humor, quick witted. . . at once an academic and goof ball. Great friend. Good soul. May his memory be for a blessing. Kathy (nee Braunschweiger) Schultz Taylor
