Robert Selb

Robert Thomas Selb, Sr. Passed away quietly, at home, on the morning of November 28th after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He was born March 2, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio to loving parents. He enjoyed sports...particularly playing softball. In 1958 he joined the family's caravan of cars and moved westward to California. The family arrived in Redwood City where he graduated from Sequoia High School and went to work in the maintenance area for United Airlines, where he worked for 42 years before his retirement in 2002. While bowling one evening, he met Diane (Dee Dee) Broock, whom he married, they raised two sons and also purchased two family homes in Redwood City. He will always be remembered for his wit and his love of family. He was always there for his family, sacrificing himself in order to help them in any way he could. He was an avid fan of the S.F. Giants and 49'ers, and lay with a Giants blanket in his last days. In their final years, he was a loyal companion and caregiver to his parents, Carroll and Bill. Dee Dee, his wife of 52 years extended that care and devotion to Bob during his battle with cancer. Loving husband of Diane, beloved father of Bob (Samy) and David, cherished grandfather of Ashley and Jeremy and beloved brother to Bill (Emily) who will miss him deeply. We celebrate the fact that he is free of pain and enjoying the after-life with his parents. The family extends its appreciation to Dr. Byron Wilson and his caring staff at Valley Medical Oncology, with a special mention to his chemo nurse, Sherri, who was always there with a smile, a hug, and encouraging words. And finally, thanks to the staff of Mission Hospice, who made Bob's final days comfortable. In accordance to Bob's wishes, no service will be held.
