Robert (Bob) Simms, 68, passed away at Stanford Hospital after a long battle with cancer and dementia.
Born in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, Bob was the third and youngest child of Del and Millie Simms. The family relocated to San Mateo, CA. in 1959.
In 1979, Bob met the love of his life, Lynn Bader. They were married August 18th, 1984 and enjoyed 27 years together until her death in 2006. Together, they owned and operated Recycling Equipment Repair. They enjoyed traveling, boating, camping and being with family and friends. Every year they looked forward to camping at Lake Shasta with family.
Bob enjoyed many hobbies such as being a member of and hiking with the Sierra Club Singleaires. He was also active in the Gem and Mineral Society in Redwood City. He enjoyed rock hounding and jewelry making. He especially enjoyed making pens with his lathe and gifting them to others. As his health declined, he found purpose by feeding the feral cats by the Redwood City Harbor.
In 2015, Bob met Betsy Ross through a hiking group. Together they shared wonderful adventures and trips. It was their unconditional love for each other that brought Bob comfort as Betsy remained at his side until the end.
Bob is survived by his partner Betsy Ross, daughter Elizabeth (Dave) Hayes, step-son Govinda Om Bader, granddaughter Markee Angel Sierra, great-granddaughter Philippa Sierra. Sister Susan (Ken) Brown, Brother-in-law Tim (Laurie) Joseph, Sister-in-law Terry Randall, nephews and niece - Tim Joseph Jr., Jeff Brown, Connor Brown, and Lindsay Joseph. Cousins Shelley Wood, Tim Rees and family in Canada. Best friends Steve and Valerie Concello.
Bob is predeceased by wife Lynn, parents Del and Millie Simms, sister Diana, niece Kristina, and in-laws Sylvia and Sanford Randall.
Bob had a wonderful village of family, friends (especially Betsy, Steve and Val), and neighbors who helped care for him the last few years of his life. He loved all of you!
Bob's silly sense of humor brought joy and laughter and will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
