Ruth DeLanis Lycette. passed away peacefully. on April 10, 2025. at the age of 93. Ruth was born to Morris and Mary DeLanis. She grew up in Piedmont, CA and was educated at Lakeview Grammar School, Piedmont High School, and earned a bachelor's degree at Stanford University. At school, Ruth enjoyed and excelled at student government and the performing arts where she made numerous lifelong friends.
Upon graduation, Ruth lived and worked in San Francisco. She worked for Bank of America and The Wall Street Journal in their financial public relations departments. While working in "The City" she met and married Errol Lycette. They made San Francisco their home, spending their summers on the Peninsula where they were able to maintain contact with their many friends in the Bay Area and the Stanford community.
Ruth adored her family, supported her community and was a patron of the performing arts. She traveled worldwide extensively, and particularly appreciated a weekend in Carmel or Yosemite. Ruth was also an avid sports fan. She was a passionate and loyal fan of the Stanford University teams, attending almost all the Cardinal's home football games. When at home, Ruth often spent her time gardening or reading and discussing politics and her love of our country with friends.
Ruth was a member of the Peninsula Volunteers, Stanford Women's Club of San Francisco, San Francisco Garden Club, Forest Hill Garden Club, The Francisca Club, The Olympic Club, and Menlo Circus Club.
For the past 20 years, Ruth was a resident of the Vi at Palo Alto where she formed a multitude of great friendships.
Ruth will be missed by all that knew her. She was always ready to spend time with friends and particularly loved lunch engagements and dinner parties. Ruth was an amazing conversationalist, as she was knowledgeable and a caring listener. She was known to her friends as "one of the all-time great dinner partners."
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Errol and brother Ed DeLanis. She is survived by her son Bob, his wife Kathy, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, and two nephews and their families.
Ruth's family requests that any memorial gifts be made in the name of Ruth Lycette to the following charitable organizations; The Peninsula Volunteers, Menlo Park, California, The American Cancer Society, and the Fine Art Museums of San Francisco.
