Sally Offutt Obituary
10/02/1928 - 02/10/2025
Helen Elizabeth Brower was born on October 2, 1928 in Holland, MI. At the age of three, Helen changed her name to "Sally" after her favorite storybook character. She was called Sally for the rest of her days. In spite of the Depression, Sally had an idyllic childhood spent with her siblings exploring the natural world around Holland. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan where she met her husband Casper (Cap) Offutt, Jr. They married in 1950 and moved to his hometown of Omaha, NE. There, Cap and Sally had three children before moving to San Francisco where Cap established a new business. The family settled in a lovely home in Atherton, California. Each summer the family enjoyed going to the cottage on Lake Okoboji, IA where they would gather with old friends to relax and enjoy each other's company. Every fall they spent a week in the Sierra Nevadas at Sardine Lake, a place very dear to their hearts, to fish and hike. Sally was an avid gardener and delighted in raising chickens in their orchard. She loved opera, birding, crewel embroidery and sailing on the bay. Most of all though she loved her family and was a wonderful mother and grandmother and a loyal friend to many. She and Cap were married for 70 happy years before he passed away in 2020. She is survived by Casper Offutt, III (Jan) of Bozeman, MT; David Offutt (Jane) of Omaha, NE and Elizabeth Edelmann (Sid) of Washington, DC, as well as five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and their ever-faithful Westie, Abby. Rest in peace, Mom/Grandma; we love you dearly!
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space to honor Sally's love for nature and the outdoors. Contributions can be made online at openspace.org/get-involved/donate

We knew Cap and Sally from our shared years at Okoboji and Carpenter Offutt Oaper Company. I always loved Sally´s beautiful smile and her warm energy. She was a very sweet and likable person. We caught up with each other two years ago when we exchanged letters and I´m grateful for that.
