Salvatore Lima Obituary

Salvatore A. Lima

Sal Lima left this earth peacefully at the age of 82 on May 11, 2019. He was born and raised in San Francisco and graduated from Lincoln High School.

Sal leaves behind his daughter, Cindy Lima (Kathy Burkart) of Bend, Oregon and two vibrant granddaughters, Lindsey Burkart-Lima of San Diego and Paige Burkart-Lima of Boulder, Colorado. Sal was preceded in death by his adored mother Nancy Eleanor Lima and his spirited sisters Tressa Diane Lima Sullivan and Marie Rose Lima Farnsworth and many nieces and nephews. Sal was extremely proud of his Sicilian heritage.

A sailor at heart, Sal spent many fond childhood summers in a rowboat on the river in Capitola where his grandfather had a beachfront bungalow. After high school he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and docked in San Diego where Cindy's mother asked him to dance. As a young father, he earned a degree in accounting, got his CPA and became the controller of a local company. He then earned a law degree from the University of San Francisco and headed to New York University for an advanced degree in taxation. Returning to San Francisco five years later, Sal opened a solo law practice involving tax, business and real estate. He was also an adjunct professor at Golden Gate University where he taught graduate students for fifteen years – or rather 'they taught him,' as he liked to say.

Those who knew Sal in his young years feared his tennis serve and knew that the only thing quicker was his sarcasm. In later years he found his passion in ballroom dancing where he met his second wife. They took lessons and classes and participated in many ballroom dance competitions.

Sal lived in San Francisco, South San Francisco, Marin, Oakland and the Sacramento Delta, where he owned homes with docks and boats for many enjoyable, sun-filled years.

Above all, Sal's greatest contribution and source of happiness and pride was his deep love and devotion to his mother, sisters, daughter and granddaughters. Sal lived with and cared for his mother in her later years and said she gave him inner strength throughout his life. He cherished his sisters and they bantered with gusto. He encouraged his daughter and granddaughters to be independent, positive and go for what they wanted in life and he was supportive and available to help them, always.

You will be missed "Lim" – may you sail the high seas of heaven and happily reunite with all the loved ones awaiting you.
Donations may be made in Sal's honor to The Michael J. Fox Foundation to support research on Parkinson's disease.
