Sarah Jarvis Obituary

Sarah Weld JarvisAfter her 75th birthday in December, Sarah Weld Jarvis, was surprised to find she had an inoperable brain tumor. Sarah was the daughter of Dr. Fred Jackson Jarvis and Constance Weld Jarvis. She was also sister to Peter Jarvis, Laurie Barenborg, and Bruce Jarvis. Although not expecting to leave the earth so soon, it was in peaceful grief and acceptance that she began the process of leaving cherished colleagues, friends and family. Her children, Michele Heaton, Constance Aleman, and Peter Thomas, along with their partners, Steve, Gonzalo, and Jill, cherish her memories. Sarah longed for the opportunity to spend more time with her beloved grandchildren, Tyce, Alyssa, Shantelle, and Slate Thomas.
Her children and grandchildren will remember her as a generous spirit who gave more than she received. Everyone Sarah touched on earth felt blessed by her presence. She was a forward thinker whose life work fought man's cruelty to one another and destruction of the environment. She is also remembered as intellectual, independent, and physically strong, never letting age slow her down, working full time up until her diagnosis.
In the late 1970's while working toward a PhD in Environmental Education, Sarah began volunteering at Seattle Rape Relief. This work became more compelling, and helping those who have suffered from sexual assault became her life's work. In 1992 she moved to California and in 1995 founded Rape Trauma Services of San Mateo County. RTS is the only organization in the county providing sexual assault services for survivors and their loved ones while working in the community to prevent sexual assault, end cycles of violence, and educate residents and providers about sexual violence and abuse.
For those wishing to continue her work, donations can be made to:
Rape Trauma Services, Attn: Emily Abrams, 1860 El Camino Real, Suite 406, Burlingame, CA 94010.

3 years have now passed and i still cannot believe you are gone.
Sarah Jarvis was my life saver. I always told her that she was like a guardian angel & how without her being in my life who knows where i would be.
My deepest condolences to her family.
Sarah was a part of my life since my early teenage years-I'll be turning 40 soon. She was the best therapist a survivor in need could ever dream of. Our relationship was unique to say the least. The trust we shared only deepened my bond to her. My life is better because she was in it & i miss her dearly.

I am shocked to hear of Sarah's passing! I felt compelled to email her just a week ago to follow up on communication we had a few years back. I was too late... I will always be grateful for and remember her lifesaving, heart-based therapy and profound work at RTS. She truly saved lives and taught hope. And she was also a mentor to me. I can honestly say knowing her was life-changing. My sincerest condolences to her family!

Our families were good friends and Sally (as she was called then)and I had many fun and memorable times together. Starting with "Miss Pipers" preschool. The Seattle Tennis Club which was close to their home on McGilvra Blvd. Our families all went to Whydby Island to chop down our Christmas trees. Very special times!
My blessings to her wonderful family

Sarah will always be one of the greatest people I've ever had the privilege to work with and know. I'm proud to continue her work at RTS and keep her memory alive with every survivor's life I touch. Missing you always Sarah.

Sarah touched the lives of many people. I had the honor and pleasure of working with her for many years. She will be remembered for her great spirit and her wish to have a better world for those who do not have a voice. My thoughts go to her lovely family.
