Sophia Owens Obituary

Sophia Florence (Riedel) Owens March 20, 1910 - January 6, 2008 Sophia Owens passed away peacefully on January 6, 2008, just two months short of her 99th birthday. Preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Marion Owens; her son, Bruce Owens, and eight siblings; she is survived by her devoted children Brad Owens of Roseville, CA, Becky Parker of West Blocton, Al, Brenda Whitlow of Antioch, CA, Babette Owens of Gig Harbor, WA, and Bev Toring of Foster City, CA. To also cherish her memory, Sophia leaves behind 18 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Sophia grew up in Hayes, KS, then as a young bride and mother, settled in San Francisco where she and her husband raised their family. She lived the remainder of her life in the Bay Area. Sophia's quick wit and sense of humor was with her even in her last days. She will always be remembered as a truly beautiful woman and devout Catholic. Family and friends are invited to the CHAPEL OF THE CHIMES, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA for the visitation on Wednesday, Jan. 14th. 5:30-8:30 pm and Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, Jan. 15th, 11:00 am at OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE, 40382 Fremont Blvd, Fremont. Donations may be made in Sophia's name to a favorite charity of choice. Chapel of the Chimes 510-471-3363
