Soren Dixon Obituary

Soren Dixon
04/13/2005 - 11/27/2024
Soren Mangseth Dixon
April 13, 2005 – November 27, 2024
Soren passed away unexpectedly in a tragic car accident on Wednesday morning, November 27, while home for Thanksgiving.
Our dear Soren.
He was vibrant, loving, and charming. He shone bright, instantly enhancing and elevating every room he entered. His absence leaves an enormous void in the lives of his parents, brothers, family, huge circle of friends and community at large.
As the youngest of three, he held a special place and added spark and sparkle to his family. His family will forever hold his memory in their hearts and be guided by his example of how to live a life full of joy, caring, and happiness.
Raised in Piedmont, Soren graduated from Piedmont High School in 2023. He possessed a rare combination of attributes-excellence in the classroom and on the sports field, and close relationships with friends and family in everyday life. An honors student at Piedmont High, he had near-perfect grades, despite being tardy almost every morning. He played three varsity sports in high school and had a huge impact on all of them, especially lacrosse, where he started all four years. He was a truly fierce competitor, and his teammates were drawn to his leadership and passion, selecting him to be lacrosse captain during his junior and senior years. His time in Piedmont was enriched by being part of his inseparable crew of buddies-together, they walked through every stage of life.
Soren was a sophomore at USC, majoring in biology. He was a loved and respected member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, and a valued member of the USC men's club lacrosse team. He was so proud of being a Trojan!
Soren was kind and joyful and admired by all. Soren loved animals, and his dog, Ruby, held a special place in his heart. He was an adventurous spirit who enjoyed skiing, scuba diving, and rock climbing and, most recently, learning to surf. His time with us was a blessing, and we will miss him every day.
Soren is survived by his parents, Robert and Kristen; older brothers and sister-in-law, Aidan and Colin (Nicole); eight grandparents; seven aunts; seven uncles; and fifteen cousins.
A service and celebration of Soren's life will be held on Saturday, January 4, at 11:00 a.m., at the Piedmont Community Church. A reception will follow at the Piedmont Community Hall. In lieu of flowers and to honor Soren's love of animals and his favorite sport, lacrosse, the family prefers donations to the Milo Foundation (www. milofoundation.org) or to the Oakland Lacrosse Club (www.oaklandlacrosse.org), a non-profit organization that brings the sport of lacrosse to Oakland public schools through PE, after-school, and summer programs.

Soren was one of 17 students in a class on Aging and the Media at USC. We were so shocked and saddened by his death so soon after we last saw him. We conducted a memorial tribute to him in class this past week. Everyone spoke of his kindness, contagious smile, intellect. Indeed as the obituary states, we did acknowledge that he was often late to class, but seemed to always have and excellent grasp on the material. He asked insightful questions and was an excellent communicator. While we knew him only 14 weeks, or 28 class sessions, he left an indelible lasting impact on those in our class. His friendships were far reaching across the USC community at large. We send our care, condolences and strength to all his loved ones at this most difficult time.

I did not know Soren but my kid went to school with him (fellow class of 2023) and said that while they were not close friends, "Soren was a super cool guy." My heart breaks for his parents, siblings, friends. Please know the community (including those you never met) are grieving. Peace be with you. Parents all know how impossibly tragic this is.
