Spencer Umeki Memoriam

Spencer Umeki
Spencer Umeki passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2024. Born in Berkeley, CA on September 24, 1949, Spencer was the second son of Kaoru and Isoko Umeki. He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Bryan. His family was his world: loving wife Sheila, twins Alexandra and Coco, sister Donna Umeki and brother-in-law, Mark Greenside, and three generations of cousins. He will also be sorely missed by Spirit, the family's 3 year old yellow Labrador retriever.
Spencer attended Longfellow Elementary School, Willard Junior High School, Berkeley High School, and San Francisco State. He made lifelong friends from school, including Carey Williams, James Langford, Aaron Joseph, and Raymond Hamilton and was known for his loyalty and steadfastness, sense of humor, quiet presence, and acceptance of people from every walk of life. Lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers, the Golden State Warriors, and the San Francisco Giants, through good and bad seasons. He admired and respected the martial artist and actor, Bruce Lee, for his physical agility and talents, as well as his spiritual and philosophical views of life.
Long-time resident of Alameda, California before moving to Vallejo. Spencer's ashes will be interred at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Men's Health Network (Washington, D.C.) or Strides for Life Colon Cancer Foundation (Burlingame, CA).
