Stella Tognoli Obituary

Stella J. Tognoli (nee Besozzi) Born on June 12, 1910 in North Beach, Stella died on January 25, 2008 at the age of 97. She was the daughter of Anita (Ghielmetti) and Carlo Besozzi; sister of Lillia, Eric, Stanley and Louis Besozzi, all of whom preceded her in death. Two siblings died in infancy. She was married to Elbi (Babe) Tognoli, also deceased. Together they owned the Fly Trap Restaurant when it was on Sutter and Montgomery Streets. They had two children, Dawn Tognoli and Ronald Tognoli. Ron passed away in October 2007. She was the mother-in-law of Barbara Tognoli, whom she loved as a daughter. Stella was an active member of many groups, including mother's clubs when her children were in school. The two organizations closest to her heart were the Italian Welfare Agency, now known as Italian/American Community Services Auxiliary, and the Italian Catholic Federation, Branch #175. She served for many years as financial secretary for these associations. Stella was a wonderful cook. Dining at her home was always a treat for her guests. Her niece, Joan Besozzi Judnick and her nephew, Steven Tognoli recall holiday meals at her home among their very favorite memories. Stella enjoyed her family, her home, her many friends, visiting with the Palazzolo Family, watching the Giants and 49ers on TV, reading the newspaper, attending her club's events, and shopping with her daughter. She passed away at Coming Home Hospice. The family sincerely thanks all of the people at Coming Home and the care givers at Kaiser Hospice for their warm understanding, attention, help and kindness. Donations can be sent to Coming Home Hospice, 115 Diamond St., SF, CA 94114, or to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95204. Burial was private. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass to be celebrated at St. Monica Parish, Geary Blvd. at 23rd Ave., on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 11:00 am. McAvoy-O'Hara Co. (415) 668-0077
