Stella Yee Obituary

Sister Stella Marie Yee, CSJ 1926-2012 "And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8) A Memorial Mass for Sister Stella Marie Yee will be held at Old St. Mary's Cathedral (660 California Street) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012. A reception will follow the Mass. Sister was born in Elko, NV on September 26, 1926 and peacefully passed away at Regina Residence in Orange, CA on February 1, 2012. Sister graduated from St. Mary's School (Chinese Mission) in 1941 and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange in 1948. She was a faithful and joyful religious for 64 years as a teacher, principal, missionary to Papua New Guinea, and Secretary General of the Community. Sister wrote in her autobiography that after her eight years as Secretary General she yearned to return to St. Mary's where she taught for twenty-three years until her retirement: "Somehow, I just knew that I would return to the very place that I had encountered God for the first time and to be able to share with the children there what I received from God's goodness!" Sister Stella Marie is lovingly missed by her sisters, Elaine Chan (class of 1944) and Sister Dorothy Ann Yee, CSJ, (class of 1943), her nephew and nieces, and her religious family, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange. Contributions in her memory can be made to her beloved St. Mary's Chinese Mission, 838 Kearny Street, San Francisco, CA. 94108. McAVOY O'HARA Co 415-668-0077
