Theresa Carey Obituary
April 25, 1958 - March 20, 2023
Theresa Marie Carey passed away peacefully at home in San Francisco on March 20, 2023.
Theresa was a City Girl through and through, born and raised in San Francisco and living in both the City and South San Francisco her entire life. She attended St. Emydius Grammar School, St. Paul's High School and graduated from the University of San Francisco Nursing School.
Theresa was a devout Catholic. Her faith was paramount in her life, and she embodied the Catholic spirit. Her faith brought her comfort and direction. This could especially be seen in her huge heart and giving spirit.
Theresa was known for her compassion as demonstrated by her career choice, and her love of animals.
She worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years at Children's Hospital Oakland, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford and UCSF. Theresa found her true calling as a pediatric oncology nurse where her nursing skills combined with her empathy allowed her to be a healer and nurturer for patients and their families during challenging times.
Theresa was a lifelong lover of all animals. Atypical in San Francisco, Theresa raised a pig, birds, goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits and a long list of dogs. She wanted to rescue and love any animal in need.
Theresa did have health challenges, but she faced them with a positive attitude and a fierce will to overcome them. She rarely complained about her health and most often said, "you know, I'm doing pretty well."
Family was a huge part of Theresa's life. Theresa was predeceased by her father Daniel. She is dearly missed by her mother Elizabeth; siblings Ann, Rosemary (Carl), Daniel Jr. (Deborah) and Terence (Juliane); nieces and nephews Nicole, Katherine (Scott), Caroline and Sean; grand niece and nephews; many cousins and relatives; and lifelong friends Matt Rivette and Kathy Mora.
A vigil will be held at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City on Wednesday March 29 at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at St. Emydius Church, 286 Ashton Ave, San Francisco on Thursday, March 30 at 10:00 AM. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
In lieu of sending flowers, please consider making a donation to ASPCA or The Milo Foundation in Theresa's memory.

Theresa is one of those special people you cannot forget, no matter how many years (decades) go by. Possessing a pleasant and kind soul, she brightened up our class. She made a positive difference by her caring nature, an example to all of us blessed to know her.

Like all my classmates at St.Emydius, she was one of a kind. My brother bought the house next door to the Carey's on Head St. so I was able to keep in touch with her,she was amazing. She will sorely be missed by many.
