Thomas Randlett Obituary

Thomas E. Randlett

January 30, 1943 - August 14, 2015

On August 14th Thomas E. Randlett died peacefully in his San Francisco home surrounded by his family. He was 72. He had been battling neuroendocrine cancer of the pancreas since 2009.

A member of the class of 1964, Tom graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Politics. He became a Certified Public Accountant and rose to become Managing Partner of KPMG's Oakland office where he oversaw the firm's Northern California Real Estate and Construction practice. A trusted friend and confidant, Tom was a mentor to his colleagues, always sharing the fruits of his success.

He went on to start his own consulting practice, eventually joining Law & Economics Consulting Group (LECG) as a Principal. In the aftermath of the Savings & Loan financial crisis of the 1980's, Tom helped save taxpayer dollars while consulting for the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC), which was charged with the orderly liquidation of assets. Later in his career, he proudly served as Chairman of the Audit Committee for Essex Property Trust, a position he held until his death.

Despite all his professional success, Tom never wavered from his core values: family, friends, and sharing his zest for life with others. A fifth-generation Californian, he eagerly explored the beauty of his native state's landscape. As an avid traveler, accomplished skier, and adventurous hiker, Tom loved nothing more than a day of exploration outdoors followed by a great meal, fine wine, and good cheer. He will be remembered by his wide circle of friends and beloved family for his overflowing generosity, his infectious laugh, his incisive wit, and his adventurous spirit.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; his two sons, Wade (Lorna) and Bradley (Meredith); his identical twin, Jim, and older brother, John. He was a playful and kindhearted grandfather; he will be missed by his six grandchildren: Scully, Tabitha, Beckett, Rhys, Isabella, and Kayleigh.

Contributions can be made in Tom's memory to two organizations that were instrumental to his well-being, the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation and NorCal CarciNet. For more information see: http://www.caringforcarcinoid.org/donations and https://norcalcarcinet.org/donate
