Tom, still practicing law, died unexpectedly in his sleep at the age of 76. Survived by wife Betty and children Michelle, Geoff and Janai. Passionate guardian of Kaylan and Maurice. Born in Michigan. Co-founded the Oakland CORE office and was a Freedom Rider. Tom loved history, genealogy, restoring his Victorian and his goats and garden. A staunch atheist, lifelong activist, eccentric, and brilliant, he was tough yet cried easily. Despite his limited resources, he couldn't stop helping those in need. A memorial celebration will be held at Live Oak Park on Saturday April 6 (information at www.tomroland.com).

To Tom's family,
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. I hope your memories will get you through this time of mourning. I am a cousin of Tom's. I met him at our Roland reunion held in Michigan a couple of years ago. We spent some time talking about the family history which to me is always enjoyable. RIP Tom and God Bless your family.
