Thomas Augustus Wright, 94, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024. Just a week prior, Tom had been to Alaska, a fitting tribute to his love for the outdoors-fishing, hiking, skiing, camping-passions he eagerly shared with family and friends. It was a point of pride to have visited Yosemite every year of his life from 6 months old to well into his 70's, and beyond.
Born on August 6, 1929, in San Jose, California, to Thomas Augustus Wright Sr. and Thelma McGirr Wright, Tom graduated from San Jose State, a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Tom enlisted in the Navy, first with the SeaBees, followed by the naval reserves, retiring as a Lt. Commander, United States Naval Intelligence, USNR, with twenty-two years combined Active and Reserve service.
In 1958, Tom married Alice Decker McAllister, happily married until her passing in 2018. He worked as a financial executive at Wells Fargo Bank for nearly 30 years, followed by another 30-plus years as a real estate broker with Hill & Co., a career he never truly retired from.
Community service was a cornerstone of Tom's life. Tom found kindred spirits as a member of many genealogical clubs and societies in the United States and England. He was a life member of The Guardsmen, St. Andrew's Society, and The Naval Club, London. He frequented the Pacific-Union Club, and was delighted to become a 50-year member last November. He was a skilled and dedicated player of dominos, bridge, and billiards, fostering lifelong friendships at each table.
Tom's many passions included genealogy, enjoying a daily cigar, reading historic books, fact and fiction, donating blood, and sharing his vast knowledge of turn-of-the-century lore. He had an uncanny knack for making strangers into friends.
"Tom Terrific"/Grandpa TT will be greatly missed by his family, Sally Wright (Brent Bonwell, Santa Fe, NM), Peggy Wright (David Griscom, Santa Fe, NM), and Kathy Wright (Kimmet Holland, Silverton, CO), his grandchildren, Logan Bonwell (Megan), Carly Bonwell, and Chelsea Griscom, and so many dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Roderick Wright. A small family service will be held at Cypress Lawn, where he will rest alongside Alice.
