Velma Burnside Obituary

Velma Tartar Burnside On July 16, 2009, after a brief illness, and just 12 days before her 102nd birthday, Velma Burnside peacefully passed away at Walnut Place in Dallas, TX. She was born to Myra Ann Greeson Tartar and Charles K. Tartar in Phelps, MO, on July 28, 1907 at the home of her beloved grandparents William and Jane Elmore Tartar. She left this world as she lived, with grace, dignity, gratitude and her great sense of humor. Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years Richard H. Burnside in 2002. (Velma and Dick previously lived in Burlingame, CA.) She is survived by their daughter Jerry Ann Penman and husband Bruce; grandsons Scott and Brad Penman; Brad's wife April; and two great-grandchildren Avery and Tanner Penman, all of Dallas. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the loving and professional staff at Walnut Place for their wonderful care for the past 101/2 years (especially to Shirley "Willie" and "Z"), Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas (6th Floor and Dr. Natalia Palacio), and to Faith Presbyterian Hospice for their compassion and assistance. Velma will be remembered in a private service for the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Sunshine Fund at Walnut Place, 5515 Glen Lakes Dr, Dallas, TX 75231, or the Faith Presbyterian Hospice Found., 6100 Colwell Blvd., Ste 225, Irving, TX 75039 would be greatly appreciated.
