Walter Stevens Obituary

Walter F. Stevens Jr.
October 27, 2023
Walter F. Stevens Jr. loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully with his children by his side on October 27, 2023, at 94 years old in Folsom, Calif. Walt was born September 15, 1929 at Children's Hospital in San Francisco, Calif. Walt attended Cabrillo Grammer school, Lincoln High and San Francisco City College along with earning a bachelor's degree in business from UC Berkeley. He worked for a small independent paint manufacturer in south San Francisco his entire working life which lasted over 50 years. Walt was a dedicated family man and he strongly believed in Community service where he served on the Millbrae, CA Recreation Commission for 13 years while being its chairman four times, including the year it was established and built. Walt and his first wife, Marylin Cummins (predeceased) moved to Millbrae, Calif., in 1956 where he raised two children, Richard and Donald Stevens. After his first marriage ended, in 1973, he married the love of his life, Jane Borders Stevens whom he was happily married to until her passing March 3, 2016. Jane raised three grown children, Melissa Stevenson (predeceased), Martha Borders, and Mel Borders (predeceased). Besides devoted to family, friends, and community, Walt's greatest passion in life was the game of golf where he competed regularly throughout northern California and especially at Harding Park in San Francisco, Crystal Springs Golf Club in Burlingame, Calif., and Green Hills Country Club in Millbrae, Calif., where he was a member for over 30 years. Walt's greatest legacy will be how kind and committed he was to his family, friends, and community, including strangers and neighbors alike. Walt is survived by his sons and their wives, Richard and Tina Stevens and Donald Stevens and Leslie Hardy; daughter, Martha Borders. Sister, Mary Schrank; nephews, Will and Wally Schrank. Niece, Gayle Youlden; grandchildren, Michelle Stevens, Andrew Stevens, Matthew Stevens, Tyler Stevens. Great-granddaughter, Lila Gordon. Rich and Don. I am so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. I worked with Walt for 28 years at the paint store. He was Steve to me because of Walt McRae the owner. Always a gentleman and we had so many laughs working together. May he rest in peace.
