Dearest Joey, Eleanor, Grace and Henry, I never had the pleasure of meeting you three (though I did receive the Christmas cards and could so clearly see your parents in each of you) and Joey I wonder if you remember me from your brief time in NYC and, of course, from your Christmas card mailing list! Thank you for putting me on it and keeping me on it for so many years.
I first met Bill in LA -- we were both working at an ad agency, Ogilvy&Mather (maybe he was interning?). Anyway, from the moment I met him I realized I had never met anyone like him before or since. He was the funniest person I'd ever met. And he was the most humble person I'd ever met. He was a gem of a human being. You/we are all so lucky to have been in his warm, optimistic, fun-filled universe.
My heart truly aches for your loss.
I only found out about Bill a week ago. Cabell Ellington Molina told me. I met Cabell through Bill when I lived in LA; they were from the same neighborhood.
If any of you are in NYC -- or need a place to stay for a few days, please let me know. Mi casa es su casa. Pretty sure I've heard Bill say that before.
Much love to you all,
Thomasine Dolan Dow

Glad I got to know him. Always enjoyed the sailing connection that just expanded with his interests & his passions for family, friends, and adventure.
What I remember most was the joy I would feel when he would go from serious face to happy face! He was both an intense and a caring man.
I will miss you Bill Buckingham. God speed.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family, especially Joey, Ellie, Grace, and Henry.

My condolences for the entire Buckingham family. I can only imagine what this loss means to you. I have found a few Stanford sailing pictures- we won a lot of races that year and he made All American. Wonderful memories and so sorry for your loss. Peace.

My prayers and thoughts are with all of you. It has been many many years since we have spoken but some friendships never end. Growing up together on McFarland Lane in San Marino (1965) and the days at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, of hide and seek in the boat yard all seems like ages ago. We all grow up and go our separate ways. But some people will always remain in your heart.

Sending Love and our deepest sympathy to the Buckingham family. Will always looked so handsome, tan and healthy whenever we saw him that we were sure he was one of the few who had beaten his diagnoses and we we're overjoyed!! Our hearts are truly heavy as he was a shining light in our community ❤

St. Anselm has wonderful memories of Bill. His love and support for his children were evident.

I adored Bill, and I love his family, including his little dog Max. I remember encountering Bill and his son Henry a few years ago. I was walking a dog, and they stopped to chat. Bill had already been through some rounds of chemo, and I looked at him (so handsome) and exclaimed, "Dude, you still have all of your hair!" He grinned and said, "Yep, and I'm growing a beard, too."
I said I was glad he had his hair still, because if he'd lost it during treatment, there would have been a lot of bald-headed people wandering around Ross and Marin County, in solidarity. Henry said he'd certainly have shaved his head. (I was relieved, because it would have been a tough move for me: I'd have scared little children and dogs, and nobody wants that.)
I'm going to miss him forever. Love to Joey and Max and the beautiful children, who have become such fine young adults.

Bill was an inspiration to all of us in the community. Throughout his battle, he always remained upbeat. Every time I ran into him, he was engaging and charming. God Bless him and all of you, his beautiful family that he loved and cherished.
