William Gluck Obituary
May 13, 1982 - June 22, 2022
William Richard "Will" Gluck, talented composer and musician, beloved brother, son and friend, released his spirit on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 in Lincoln, MA. He was 40 years old.
Diagnosed with glioblastoma at age 30, Will passionately, courageously, and successfully pursued his musical talent. He earned an MFA in Sound in 2015 at Mills College in Oakland, CA., (winning the Margaret Lyons Music Prize for Excellence in Composition) and an MA in Music Composition in 2016. He also held a BA in Music from Bates College in Lewiston, ME and studied Sound Art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Based in Oakland, Will worked with guitar, piano, pipe organ, electronic, and other media. His electronic composition, "For Emily Dickinson" was performed on his behalf at the Center for New Music in San Francisco on May 8, 2022.
Will is survived by his parents, Arlene and William Gluck of Groton (formerly of Concord, MA); by his sister Johanna "Josie" Gluck and brother-in-law Michael Schunke of West Grove, PA; by his sister Katherine "Katie" Gluck and brother-in-law David Finney and adoring niece Anna Finney of Essex, MA; his honorary sister Brooke Alkon of Boston, MA; and his very dear, supportive friends: Caitlin Dube of Arlington, MA, John Agraz of Oakland CA, and Marion Anderson of Seattle, WA.
Deeply committed to challenging his disease, he donated his brain to the Harvard Brain Bank to support Brain Cancer Research.
A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, Beverly, MA on Friday, August 5, 2022, at 11 am, with a reception to follow at the home of the Finneys, Essex, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcomed by The National Brain Tumor Society.
