William Gore Obituary

William E. Gore
January 7, 1945 - June 13, 2023
In Loving Memory of William E. Gore
William E. Gore, known as Bill, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 13 at the age of 78. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, intellect, and a love for his family, friends, and furry companions. Bill was born on January 7, 1945, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to William Gore and Betty Crum (later Beth). In 1952, the family relocated to California, where Bill would establish deep roots and create a life filled with remarkable accomplishments and cherished memories.
From a young age, Bill displayed athleticism and intelligence, and these qualities accompanied him throughout his life. Surfing, swimming and later scuba diving with his son were some examples of his athleticism. He pursued higher education at UC Berkeley, for undergraduate where he also played water polo and later attended law school. Bill's passion for the law was clear as he held various professional positions, including serving as general counsel for System 99 trucking company, contributing to the San Francisco Consulting Group (SFCG) and enjoying a successful private practice, often with close friends who became his valued clients. He embraced remote work long before it became the norm, avoiding the traditional office environment to contribute to the legal world from the comfort of his own home.
Bill had an insatiable curiosity and an eagerness to learn. He possessed a deep interest in technology, science, and diverse knowledge, always seeking to expand his understanding of the world around him. This thirst for knowledge fueled his problem-solving abilities, and he generously shared his wisdom with friends and family - helping them navigate their own challenges.
Bill is survived by his wife, Lucy Spangler-Gore, with whom he shared over 39 years of love, companionship, and adventure. Together, they embarked on various businesses, residing in Berkeley, Minneapolis, Napa, and Amador County. Bill's profound love for nature and the great outdoors extended to his children, Erin S. Gore and William R. Gore (Melissa). He instilled in them a passion for the natural world, spending cherished moments together in the Sierras and creating lasting memories.
He is also survived by his sister, Steph Farnham of Volcano, stepbrothers Bob Beth of New Zealand, and Rusty Beth of Lagos, Portugal and Randy Brandow, South Pasadena. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Isabella Gore, Albert Bellingrath, and Wiley Bellingrath. He was predeceased by his stepbrother Bill Beth.
Bill's passing is mourned deeply by his family, neighbors, clients, and the many friends he accumulated throughout his years. His warm presence, genuine kindness, and intellectual prowess will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a future time. Bill's loved ones and acquaintances are encouraged to remember and celebrate his life in their own meaningful ways, holding his memory close to their hearts. Memorial gifts are gratefully welcomed by Lucy Spangler-Gore to bridge this time of transition.
