"Success comes to those who hustle wisely," wasn't just the saying gilded onto a golden belt buckle regularly worn by long-time Alameda resident, Bill Rogers--but a lifelong pursuit. He embodied this mantra for almost 87 years, until December 14th, when his final hustle--just a few weeks shy of his 87th birthday--came to an end. Whether he had the buckle made, or simply found a dusty box full of them during one of his frequent adventures to one of his trusted thrift stores, no one can truly say. But for decades, many a graduating friend or relative could count upon receiving this pragmatic reminder to be inspired--and keep your pants up.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Very sad to hear of Bill's passing. I remember some of the memories shared in the obituary. Bill is in my thoughts several days a week for an odd reason. Years ago he gifted me with a company letter opener. Every week I use it I remember who gave it too me. I was fond of Bill and remember our good times before he moved west.

Bill was probably the most fascinating person I have ever met. He was insanely smart, and yet, humble and very soft-spoken. I am glad I saw him recently, but I will always remember him at his best.
