Saverio Pitassi Obituary
September 22, 1930 - January 21, 2022 Saverio "Sam" Pitassi passed away peacefully on January 21, 2022, at the age of 91 after a long and full life. He was born to Peter and Josephine Pitassi on September 22, 1930, in Modesto, CA moving to Los Angeles with his family when he was two. He grew up on Yale St. near Alpine and Broadway in downtown Los Angeles attending Cathedral High School, playing football, and graduating in 1948. He was drafted into the US Army in 1951 and served in Korea from December 1951 to June 1953. He was stationed in Pusan with the Army Engineers before being honorably discharged. Upon returning from overseas, Sam was married to Louise in July 1953. After 66 years of marriage, she passed away in 2019. He missed her dearly. They raised their family in Hacienda Heights living in their home on Lancewood Ave for nearly 60 years. Sam worked for Blue Diamond for over 35 years in both the steel and Redi mix divisions and was a proud member of Teamsters Local 420. He and the company were also rightfully proud of his service having achieved 2,000,000 miles of accident-free driving. After retirement in 1988, Sam and Louise enjoyed traveling in their trailer, fishing, working on projects around their home, and sharing in the life events of their two sons and daughters-in-law, eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Sam had an incredible talent for figuring things out. He was enormously generous with his time to help others in need. Whether it was auto repairs (from an oil change to an engine rebuild), re-roofing his house, building a room addition, masonry work, plumbing, electrical, or just changing a tube in a TV (some of us remember those days), there was nothing he wouldn't take on and complete as well as anyone while never looking at a You Tube video to show him how. Sam never said no to helping his family or friends with any project or repair they were struggling with. In his later years he enjoyed building furniture and many of his beautiful pieces are valued by his family as evidence of his many skills as a designer and craftsman. Sam will be sadly missed by all. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years Louise, his brother Jim, and his sister Dolores. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Peter and Carmelita Pitassi, and Sam and Deborah Pitassi; his sister-in-law Anne Truglio; his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Donna Misterly and Phil and Fran Misterly; his eight grandchildren Michael (Deborah) Pitassi, Christina (Ryan) Knapp, Dominic (Emily) Pitassi, Anthony (Stefanie) Pitassi, Gabriel (Michelle) Pitassi, Peter Pitassi, Jonathon Pitassi, and Nicholas Pitassi; his thirteen great grandchildren Holden Knapp, Madeline Knapp, Sadie Knapp, Alexandra Pitassi, Brady Pitassi, Nathaniel Pitassi, Lucy Pitassi, Isabelle Pitassi, Maria Pitassi, Josephine Pitassi, Dominic Pitassi, Giavanna Pitassi, and Julian Pitassi; and many nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11am on Thursday February 10, 2022.
