Dear Mrs. Calabrese & Family, Please accept my condolences for the loss of your husband / father and Grandfather.Mr (Richard) Calabrese was a great role model to his Children and many in the community.
He was a perfect gentleman, in every way.
I never saw him without a "smile" and a genuine interest in others. So fortunate is our community to have had a role model of his stature. My dad Passed away in 1983 when I was 16 and I use to watch different people in our community to learn from and Mr Calabrese was one of those people who used to patronize our family Restaurant. On occasion they would have a First National bank meeting in the back booth of our Restaurant. We will cherish the memories and may his memories last forever in the heart of his loved ones and many friends,
He will be truly missed....

To all of the Calabrese family: my heartfelt sympathy on your loss. I remember his caring ways with all his children and when my sister and I "babysat" for Richard, Christopher, and Michael (just before Amy's birth!) Richard would help us at night and just be there for his kids. May he be at peace with the Lord.

It is an honor and privilege to participate in this… celebration of Richard Calabrese's life.
Love is not an easy feeling to put into words, nor is loyalty, or trust or passion.
He was all of these. He loved life and lived it completely.
He loved his family and friends unconditionally.
He celebrated the purpose of life as exquisitely as one can.
His courage over the last few years was fiercely noble and courageous.
I've known Mr. Calabrese for 34 years.
Life on the river with our families has been the most special time of my life.
I called him the “Commodore”
He was the Commodore of the St Lawrence River, he was a deliberate man, a principled man,… he was the director.
He was our compass,… gently guiding the way.
His knowledge of the islands and his own experiences captivated us all…. No one told it better.
To travel the River with the Commodore was such a special time. (Unless of course you were in the Lyman going down the rapids in Montreal,
Or…. stalled on the river with 6 other folks …. as the Lyman choked on stale gas.
He was at his best in the work boat;…it may have been his favorite,
But he was the Commodore in the Monitor.
El Commodore'
We often joked with each other about having more boats than brains,
I bought an old Century Resorter back in 1986, as I pulled up to the Boat House and The Commodore was there, he said “Farmer the smartest thing you could do is turn around and bring that boat back where you found it”!
He was a right. The boat has sunk at least twice!
He loved entrepreneurs, creative people, fighters and survivors. If you were passionate, and hardworking, he loved it, he wanted to hear about.
“Beautiful” he would say while listening to your story.
He was selfless in conversation he loved our stories.
I've never met a man who was more positive ….. whose energy affected so many people in such a positive way.
Good came to Richard ……..because of his unique charity
He was a worker ……in so many ways …. He spent hours making the lives of others better.
He loved his projects, the deals, he loved his buildings, and he had a remarkable sense of style and design.
Some decisions would take years. The Tower on Castle Rest was 25 years in the making, and finally… it was perfect.
He had a critical eye… (With a twinkle)… He loved Castle Rest.
He was first class … and in his own words we now say … “What a Man”
He was inspired by those who he inspired …
His world of friends and people who loved him was like the universe…,
Ever increasing in size.
There was no end to his genuine interest in people.
As a self-made man who started life simply, he was driven to provide for his family, his success cannot be measured in materials things, but only by those who loved him. And look at this gathering here we are.
He was man larger than life…. thankfully… he had five children…., they each carry the torch of his character…. in their “beautiful” own way.
In all…. the most remarkable achievement of his life…. was his marriage…, he was blessed to have married the most remarkable woman in the world, Marcia …. Whom he loved and cherished as deeply as a man can.
He has been my role model…. my inspiration…. and became one of my best friends.
He was the closet man to a father I‘ve ever had …. I loved Him.
I am eternally grateful to be part of his family in such a special way.
So to you my dear Calabrese friends and family, the vision is clear, the deals will be done, the projects will continue, and his spirit will never die.
God Bless Mr. Calabrese and your loving family.

I lost my best friend, my mentor yet acquired many memories along with a great family. there is a great sense of loss for myself, his family and many that knew him. He Had a way of speaking with you and you leaving like whatever problem there was it was resolved. He never forgot anything you ever did, and he was always just a phone call away.the loss of such a person can never be replaced but the memories will live on, his teachings and understanding of life will live on.I used to say when you were with him you were in the calabrese bubble and you were untouchable. May you rest in peace yet never be forgotten. Everyone that knew him will always have a part of him that will stay with you. He not only gave of himself he gave you the ability to believe in yourself. He was a gift to all that knew him and he never gave up on you no matter what was happening in your life... His favorite Quote was " I will defend you to your last dollar" yet your last dollar would come from his last dollar.... " What a Man"

I first met Richard A. Calabrese, Esq. (respectfully also referred to as “Mr. Calabrese”, “Mr. C”, “Richard” and “Dick”) in 2005 when I opened a banking center on the ground floor of the historic Wilder Building (that was partially owned by him). Never would I have imagined that the landlord I was renting space from would become my good friend and mentor as Dick graced me with becoming.

From my ground floor window office, I had the opportunity to see Dick's daily comings and goings (stopping along the way to talk to thousands of people over the years with a gentility, warmness and charisma that came naturally to him).

I'm glad that I made a point of telling Dick more than once, that he was “one of my favorite people in the world”, because he became just that to me. Over the years, Dick introduced me to many friends and colleagues, including his close friend Don Corletta, who I love dearly. (While I only had the opportunity to rise to the level of vice president of my past employer, Dick with that sparkle in his eyes and smile would playfully introduce me as the president and/or future president.)

As an attorney, Dick touched the lives of many people from all walks in life. As a businessman, he employed uncanny artistry in making deals that led to his becoming a Rochester real estate icon. I loved his stories about how he came to write the chapters of his personal success story in life. And, while we usually spoke about business deals, it was always clear that his greatest source of pride and joy came from his beautiful family who also share his grace, warmth and charisma.

I did not see Dick nearly enough over the last year and will always regret that. But, I am very thankful for the gift of the time that I did spend with the illustrious attorney, business leader, and good friend that we are saying goodbye to now.

My heartfelt condolences to Marcia, Rich, Chris, Mike, Anthony and Amy who knew him the best, loved him the most, and have the richest of memories of their times with a truly wonderful and gentle man.

To the family and friends of a great man! I am sadden by the lose of who I called "the big guy" because to me he was on top of the world. My heart aches for the Calabrese family at this time, but I hope that they can all take comfort in knowing that he truly led a wonderful life and he left it exactly as he would've wanted; surrounded by loved ones in a place he already considered Heaven.

I always looked to Mr. Calabrese like a second father. The kindness, wisdom, concern, and guidance (and, on more than one occasion, the patience and understanding) he showed me over the years has meant more to me than I could ever adequately express in words. He always made me feel welcome, like a member of the family, and I wish I could hear him say, just once more "Boeheim, baby, you're the best!" No, Mr. Calabrese, you were the best! And I am a better man for having known you. RIP.
