Robert Goebel Obituary

Goebel, Robert J.

Robert J. Goebel, 65, of St. Cloud died peacefully at his home, with his family at his side, after a battle with cancer.

Bob was born February 13, 1947, at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital to the late Clarence and Vera (Eiring) Goebel.

He graduated from New Holstein High School in 1965, where he was a member of the 1965 New Holstein Huskies State Baseball Champions. The team had a state record of 44 wins in a row; the best high school team record and win streak ever in Wisconsin at that time. Part of Bob's contribution to the championship was that he pitched 5 no-hitters and 3 perfect games in that season. He never pitched a losing game in his high school career.

Bob served in the Army from March 1968 until January 1971. On August 13, 1988, he married Lori Ann Weber in Mount Calvary.

He was a member of St. Isidore Parish St. Cloud Church and the St. Cloud Athletic Club.

Survivors include his wife, Lori Ann Goebel of St. Cloud; his son, Nick (Jackie) Goebel of Oak Creek; his two granddaughters, Hailey and Alexis Goebel; his brother, Jef (Bev) Goebel of St. Cloud; his nephew, Jason Goebel; his mother-in-law, Rita Weber of Mount Calvary; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ken (Carol) Weber of Plymouth; Vince (Ronda) Weber of Lomira; Karen (Pete) Wettstein of Chilton; Loretta Weber and her special friend, Mark Straveler, of Eden; Mona (Bill) Hansen of Mount Calvary; Herman Weber, Roman (Lorie) Weber, and John Weber, all of Mount Calvary; Ervin Weber and his special friend, Joan Twohig, of Eden; Helen (Jim) Sippel of St. Cloud; and Chris (Kyle) Hinn of Mount Calvary. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews on his wife's side; uncles; aunts; and many cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence and Vera Goebel and his father-in-law, LeRoy Weber.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012, at St. Isidore Parish St. Cloud Church, 924 Main Street in St. Cloud. Rev. Harold Berryman will officiate with Joe Zenk assisting. Military Rites conducted by the St. Cloud American Legion Harvey Blonigen Post 478 will take place following the Mass. A private family burial will be in the St. Cloud Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 1311 Thorp Street in St. Cloud, on Friday afternoon, August 10, from 2:30 to 6 p.m., when brief family rites will be held.

Amazing person and wishing Lori Ann and all the Goebel family our sympathies --so glad I was able to play with Bob on that Amazing 1965 State Championship New Holstein Husky Baseball Team. Ironically , Elmer Casper , Jim Freund and Peter Pfister--all of us Holy Landers living here in Minnesota are playing golf together today. And we ll certainly remember Bob and Family and have a drink or two and play some sheephead , of course !! Having been born in Mt Calvary makes these an even more incredible memory --wife Marge (Konen) and I celebrated our 50 years together last year and now have 7 grandkids here --all 5 and under --fortunate we have been to have grown up together in the Holy Land with the Good Lord looking over us and our family -the best to all our Holy Land Friends and families there !

As a classmate and teammate for 4 years at NHHS you could not ask for better person. His dry sense of humor kept everyone on their toes. I will always have fond memories of the years we knew each other.I'm sure all his former teammates will always have their favorite stories to tell about Bob. We will miss him.

My deepest sympathies to you Lori and family. I was a classmate of Bob's, and really loved his way of treating all of our class. He was so kind to others, and always made time for a joke or two. My mother Bernie was one of the best friends that his mother could have had....living in St. Cloud surely made it that way...and now for Bob, it was the same. He will always be remembered, and as a classmate, he will be very well missed! Now he is with his mom and dad, and NO MORE PAIN.
God bless all of you; you had a real angel on earth, and now in heaven.
May Bob rest in peace.

Love,
Janet Jochimsen Keuler

And who also , as a father , person and husband was a true champion in life too----Bob--the good Lord needed a great pitcher and starter up there===you will be missed by all who knew and loved you and whose lives you touched --sincerely --

Lori,

Please accept my deepest condolences at Bob's passing. His quiet sense of humor was always good for a laugh, and his kindness could always be counted on for a good deed. Bob was the coolest of cousins, and just an all-around great guy; my life is richer for having known him. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
