When I think of a generous man, Wally comes to mind. He was a very caring and friendly neighbor. Always had a smile on his face. He was someone who was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Wally was a wonderful role model and will be missed.

I don't remember the first time I met Wally but do remember he had the best firm handshake. We made many trips to Milwaukee to get food for the food pantry. Occasionally with our son David. At times David and Wally went by themselves and David always enjoyed that time. Over the past weekend he also reminded me of how ripples expand from people be telling me how he stopped to help a woman with her walker navigate the snow for a few blocks. David pointed out how he felt Wally's influence on his heart. Wally touched many lives in a positive way and is missed and remembered.

To my Great Uncle Walter Herman, who gave his whole life to everyone around him. Either in WWII, as a police officer, security officer or volunteering at a food pantry. You will be profoundly missed in my families life as well as countless others whose hearts have been touched by your kindness and laughter. Miss you already.

To my Godfather and Great Uncle Walter Herman, the world is a lesser place without you. When they termed Greatest Generation they were talking about you. Thank you for your service to our Country in the time of its greatest need. Thank you for giving me what no one else could when I needed it the most. Thank you for teaching me things no one else did. You Uncle Wally made me a better man and I will never forget it. I Love You you will never be forgotten.

Wally was a very special man, open, loving, kind, Christ-like, the list could go on and on. He will be greatly missed, but he leaves a legacy of hope, love, kindness, forgiveness, and joy. We should all aspire to live life this well. In the end, it's really all that matters.

Wally was a very special person. From his help with the food pantries, to his support of contemporary worship, his love of his family and his nieces and nephews, and his love for his friends, the world could see what the love of Christ looked like through Wally's eyes. My family will miss him so very much. Our community and our world was better becuase Wally lived here.

I knew Wally from working at Memorial Hospital as a EMT for Orange Cross Ambulance. I worked many of day and night shift with Wally and he always treated the staff and patients with respect and he always had a good sense of humor.

I knew Wally for several years as a young man working at Zarlings. He was good to us kids...treated us as adults. To used Wally's own expression "he was a good egg." Fair Winds and Following Seas to another of the "Greatest Generation."

Wally was the night shift Lt. of Dets. before he was promoted to Capt. of the second shift of the Sheb. Police Dept.. Thats where I first became friends with him. He was very well liked by the officers and citizens. Unfortunately I will be out of town on Monday and unable to attend his funeral, otherwise, nothing would keep me away. He was a man I will always respect and admire. My sympathy to his family. He was a great man!
