SHELBY-William "Bill" John Werling, age 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at Hospice Wendover. Born in Erie County, Pennsylvania, on Nov. 16, 1929, he was the son of the late Edward Marion and Angeline Caroline Gibson Werling. Bill was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church and was active in the Nursing Home Ministry for more than 20 years. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on a Landing Ship Tank "LST", and mine sweeper. After retiring as a Supervisor for a Steel Plant in Cleveland Ohio, Bill went back to work at Food Lion on South Lafayette Street for 11 years. He enjoyed fishing with his wife and being outdoors. Bill would build model ships and airplanes that he would give away to children. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his twin brother, Edward Werling, and brother, Donald Werling; a sister, Charlene Carrier; and his canine companions, "Katie" and "Princess".

Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Sweezy Werling; two sons, William "Billy" Werling, Jr. and wife Maggie of Cleveland, Ohio, Wesley Craig Werling and wife Patricia of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Dorothy Maytum and husband Donald of Center City, Florida; five grandchildren, Jonathan Werling, Joseph Werling, Samantha Werling, Katelyn Werling, and Benjamin Werling; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at Faith Baptist Church, with Dr. Barry Goodman and the Rev. Johnny Owens officiating.

The family will receive friends an hour and a half before the service from 12:30 until 2 p.m., in the sanctuary.
