H.S. Keeter Obituary

H.S. KEETER

SHELBY-Hoyt "H. S." Simpson Keeter, Jr., age 90, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Carolinas HealthCare System-Cleveland. Born in Cleveland County, on March 17, 1926, he was the son of the late Hoyt Simpson and Dorothy Bridges Keeter, Sr.

H. S. lived his faith throughout his life and was known for his love for God, family, employees and customers. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church while proudly serving on the deacon board, a member of the Cal Robertson Sunday School Class, and various committees. After serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII, he went to work with his father at Keeter Ford. H. S. continued the family tradition of serving Cleveland County and believed that, "Ford should be the only car on the road." H. S. was also a trustee at Gardner Webb University, past chairman of the Salvation Army Board, and a Shelby Kiwanis Club member. H. S. enjoyed NASCAR, golf, and traveling, especially to the beach, which was his "Happy Place." His level of commitment to serving others is a testament to the man he was.

H. S. is survived by his wife, Sandra Camp Keeter; two daughters, Missy Darnell and husband Scott of Paducah, Kentucky, and Sonya Aaron of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Deanne Robertson of Shelby, Billie Kathryn Coffee and husband Demetrius of Marietta, Georgia, and Millie Holbrook and husband Eddie of Shelby; the apple of his eye, granddaughter, Madison Darnell; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, July 31, 2016, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Robert Canoy and Rev. Tony Tench.

Burial will be held at Elizabeth Baptist Church.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC 28150 or the H. S. and Sandra Keeter Scholarship Fund, PO Box 997, Boiling Springs, NC 28017.

Sandra, Deanne, Billie, Millie and families,

So sad and sorry to read of your loss. May God bless, comfort and be with each of you during this difficult time.

I feel so blessed to have known H.S. all my life. I have great memories of the years our family spent Christmas Day at his or Aunt Dorothy's home when I was growing up.

H.S. uncle, "Aldo" as he called him, short for "Alvah" would say, Shelby has lost a special and treasured gentleman.

Love, thoughts and prayers for all of you.

My condolences to and prayers for Sandra and all of H.S. family. He always had a kind word and friendly conversation for me when I visited the dealership. Great memories. Especially that photo I took of H.S. and little Madison that became the centerpiece of Keeter Ford advertising. Very special. And, a special man. Bless you all.
