BOSSIER CITY, LA - Services for Llewellyn "Bill" McCorkle will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Kendall Doctor of Barksdale Methodist Church, where Bill served as an usher until recently. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will be receiving friends at 12:00 p.m. the hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

He was born in Mechanicsburg, OH in 1920. He graduated high school in 1938 and joined the Air Force soon after and served his country for over 20 years. He toured all over and spent time as a P.O.W. in Germany. Bill met his wife while stationed in Biloxi, MS and had two daughters. He lived an active and full life. He loved to be out in fresh air and help someone in need. He also liked to spend the day with his longtime companion Ida Lungren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel and daughter Gale McCorkle.

He is survived by his daughter Sharon McCorkle, son William McCorkle, grandchildren Jamie Bass, Angie Myers, Thomas Smith, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.

Walking With Grandpa

I like to walk with Grandpa, his steps are short like mine. He never says, "Now hurry up," he always takes his time. I like to walk with Grandpa, his eyes see things like mine do, wee pebbles bright, a funny cloud, half hidden drops of dew. Most people have to hurry, they do not stop to see. I'm glad that God made Grandpa...
unrushed and young like me.

I always think of this poem when I think about Grandpa. I always think about the times when I was little and Grandpa went on his daily walks, I would love to go walking with him. Some of the best memories of my life.

Sending all my love to the most wonderful, kind-hearted, wise man that anyone could ever know. I miss you so much Grandpa.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Llewellyn (Bill) McCorkel our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Bill. And to Bill it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II and the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps and then in the U.S. Air Force. Bill, you are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
