Charles Kalmbach Obituary

Charles Dennis

Kalmbach, IV

SHREVEPORT, LA - Mr. Dennis Kalmbach, 60, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., after a brief illness. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 542 Monrovia on Friday, April 1, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. for a Celebration of Life. A private family graveside will be held at Forest Park Cemetery.

Dennis grew up in Shreveport where with childhood friends he explored all of South Shreveport on bikes when Youree Drive south of Pierremont was cotton fields and bayous. Exuberance in life led to experiences unavailable to kids today. He began at Jesuit High as a sophomore and graduated in 1969 with a love of accounting which led to years of helping individuals and corporations with their tax problems. As a Certified Public Accountant, Dennis worked for several firms in Shreveport and also, later as he moved to Pensacola and then Tavernier Key. In Florida, his love for sailing turned into "life on a boat", full time residency on his Island Packet Sailboat. He saw more beautiful sunrises and sunsets than anyone else.

Dennis returned to Shreveport often to visit friends and family. He will be missed greatly by all of us.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Charles D. Kalmbach, III and mother, Shirley T. Graef. He is survived by one son, Ross Kalmbach, of Orlando, FL; brother, Bob Kalmbach and wife, Dedra Kalmbach; and nieces, Amy and Kela Kalmbach.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Coastal Conservation Association Florida, P. O. Box 568886, Orlando, FL 32806.

We met Dennis at our Marina in Tavernier, Florida and we so pleased and surprised to meet a fellow former Shreveport resident. We enjoyed many a sunday brunch at the "Tiki hut" and telling stories of our days in Shreveport and Bossier. We will certainly miss our friend.

I remember Dennis, but it's been many years. Always difficult to hear of a fraternity member passing.

I have many great memories of Dennis from college. Last time I saw him we sat together at a NSU-LA Tech game after we had graduated many years ago. I have often thought of him since and tried to run him down several years ago but trail ran cold. I know he is having a good time and enjoying the here-after as he did his time on Earth.

Our deepest sympathies to all of you. Remembering you in our prayers. We have good memories of Dennis as he spent alot of time with our family. The Thomas family (Ringgold, La.)

Dear Ross,
I am so sorry for your loss. We have many great memories of Dennis as "Uncle Dennis" . You will always be nephew in my heart. I remember my first experience on the sailboat was a learning one. The Yacht Club holds special memories and all the growing up that you did with our family. We love you.
