Dawn was an amazing, caring MICU nurse. I was so happy when she got interested in starting an Outpatient wound care clinic and then took all the steps necessary to make it happen. I always considered her a special friend and co-worker no matter what role we were in at different points in our careers. It was so comforting to know the veterans receiving care from her would be taken care of to best of her abilities. I will always remember and miss Dawn.

Our condolences to John and other family members. Dawn was a friend and co-worker who I will never forget. She was the utmost professional, caring, person who always went the extra mile. She really made a difference in our lives and will forever hold a special place in our heart.

The Final Salute
Brothers in Arms, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to Mrs. Dawn Elizabeth Amison Whittington a dedicated Nurse who provided many years of professional medical care to military veterans at the Overton Brook VA Medical Center. To her family it symbolizes the love and respect that we veterans have for Dawn. And to Dawn it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank her for her service and devotion to her family, her country and to thousands of ArkLaTex veterans. Dawn we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 981 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 203 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Dawn's family and loved ones.

Courageous , hysterical, great laugh, a fighter, a mom who worried about her boys, willing to endure anything to beat cancer, great in - -laws , all 4 of them ,has a sweet sister who is a nurse and secretly worried but did not let Dawn know , then she had John , he was her rock , researched any Tx available, bakedbrownies , made her laugh when it was hard to, I never met a husband as dedicated to finding the next best treatment or in love as John. They will always be remembered by me. Your crazy chemo nurse Pam.
