My first days at AC Steer from 1965 on were brightened by Eddie. I've thought of him many times over my adult life and what a joyful and shining role model he was for all of us. His patience and gentle manner made him a natural friend to all. To his family - God bless you all, what a wonderful husband and father to celebrate. Have joy for God has welcomed him with open arms!

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Eddie Sykes our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Eddie. And to Eddie it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Eddie, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Eddie's family and loved ones.

Mrs. Jessie - My sister and I just learned of Mr. Eddie's death. We met you at the rehab facility (our mom's room was across the hall from Mr. Eddie). The love and dedication you displayed for "your baby" of 68 years, as well as the boyish grin he displayed each time he looked at you really warmed our hearts. Now, our hearts are so very heavy and are aching for you and your family. We will continue to keep you in our prayers. We love you Mrs. Jessie.
