I remember Ms. Ethel and that store very well. My grandmother Erma Collins, had a charge account there and we would get candy and cokes there often while visiting. Ms. Ethel and Ethel's grocery will always be part of fond childhood memories for me. She was a very special lady.

On the way to and from school year 1976-1980 we always stopped at the store for a pack of white donuts and a coke. I will always remember those times

Dear Patricia, This is Frances Preuett, daughter of Granvel and Era Preuett. Your mother was one in a million. She was the "backbone" of
the community. Who else would open their store at 3:00 in the morning to allow a mom to get cold or cough medicine for their child. She was always ready to go the extra mile for those in need. Here store was truly the meeting place for everyone. If you needed to get caught up on those in the community, you went to Ethel's Grocery. I can still, to this day, see the older guys sitting in front of the store just catching up and discussing the latest. She meant so much to everyone without even realizing it. Your obituary showed what a wonderful women she was. Not only that, she raised a wonderful daughter, was a wonderful friend to everyone and was a shining example to those who knew her. Heart felt sympathy to you and your family during this time, but rest assured she will be in all of our hearts for a very long time.

I spent time in the Fairfield community with my grandmother Maxine Richards as a little girl . I don’t remember a day that we didn’t go to Ethels grocery . She was always so nice and my grandma thought the world of her . And to a little girl Mrs Ethel was quite the inspiration. So sorry to hear of her passing

When we moved to Dry Prong in November of 1978 I was working in Alexandria. I would stop at Miss Ethel's now and then for groceries. One of those times I didn't realize I had no cash until I was checking out! I was so embarrassed! But she said to me not to worry I can bring the money next time I stop by!!!!!! Being from Lafayette I was very surprised that she was trusting a total stranger! She didn't even know my name! Needless to say every chance I got I stopped at her store!
I was so impressed by her friendliness! I live in Bentley now and always wondered what happened to "Miss Ethel"! Now I know. Rest In Peace Miss Ethel!
Such a precious lady!

Our hearts are breaking for you Patricia on the loss of your Mama. Mrs. Ethyl was the sweetest thing and always was dressed impeccably with every hair in place. She always had a smile and a kind words. Many a coke and candy bar she "put on the bill" that Mama would pay out each month. I remember the store before the remodel when the cash register was at the back of the store with a big cookie jar on the counter
Please know that we will be praying for comfort for all of you in the days and weeks ahead. We loved you very much Mrs Ethyl and you will always have a special place in our hearts and memories.
