Frank Maranto Obituary

Frank Melvin

Maranto, M.D.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Frank Melvin Maranto, M.D., 70, passed away in Dallas, Texas on June 22, 2011, after an extended illness. He was born in Shreveport on April 27, 1941, the third of eight children of Joseph Anthony Maranto and Irene Crawford Maranto, who predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Scorsone Maranto; daughter and son-law, Kimberly and David Tullis; granddaughters, Margaret and Sarah Tullis; one sister, Marie Maranto; six brothers and their

spouses, Joseph, Jr., James (Lydia), Robert (Vicki), Charles (Evelyn), Donald (Cindy), and John (Christy); six sisters-in-law and their spouses, Deane Crenshaw (Paul), Joanne Sandstedt (Carl), Theresa Baker (Paul), Charlotte Waterfallen (Jimmy), Connie Stubblefield (Billy), and Cindy Roberts (Randy); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dr. Maranto attended St. John's High School, and graduated Byrd High School and Centenary College. He received his medical degree from the Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans, and he completed his residency at Confederate Memorial Hospital in Shreveport. He was board certified in Internal Medicine, and began practicing Internal Medicine in Shreveport in 1972. Dr. Maranto was a caring physician who touched the lives of many patients.

Dr. Maranto served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a generous and thoughtful man who never met a stranger. He played football and boxed as a young man, and later developed interests in fishing, golf, chess, building model airplanes and studying foreign languages. He enjoyed living life to the fullest. Most of all, Dr. Maranto was a family man. He was extremely close to his seven siblings and shared great memories with them. He owed much gratitude to his brother Donnie, whose gift of a kidney in 1994 made it possible for Dr. Maranto to live to experience many special family moments. Dr. Maranto was married for 44 years to Carolyn Maranto, to whom he was devoted. He treasured the time he spent with his beloved daughter, Kimberly, of whom he was very proud. His granddaughters, Margaret and Sarah, held a special place in his heart, and their "Paw Paw" will always be with them.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans. Officiating will be Father James McLelland and Monsignor Carson J. LaCaze.

Entombment will follow in Forest Park Mausoleum, St. Vincent Avenue. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Will Maranto, M.D., Charles Maranto, Jr., Daniel Maranto, and John Maranto, II and friends, Tom Montgomery and James Smith.

Like Jose Jimenez, I was a classmate of Frank's at St John's, and lost contact with him after high school. It is good to know that he accomplished so much in his life and meant so much to so many. It makes me glad to have been associated with him, however briefly.

Charles and Evelyn, just know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this time. You were right when you said he is now perfectly healed. He sure is.

Adios Amigo,

As a St John's Classmate of Frank's, I extend my prayers and abrazo to his family. As a friend over 50 years ago my regret is that we lost contact after high school. The many many friends he made in his life as a doctor will assure the memory of his healing legacy.

Dear Carolyn and family, Dr Maranto has a very special place in my heart and always will. He took care of my sister Ronda and my mother Syble as well as me until he was unable to do so. I will cherish the memories I have of him. His caring and unfaltering compassion is of one that is very special, and his memory will live forever in the hearts of the many patients he attended. Thank you Frank Maranto, a truly Godly person. Ricky Britt, Shreveport, LA

Dr. Maranto was a wonderful neighbor at work, and as a patient he was caring and thoughtful. He always spoke very fondly of his siblings and his helpful and dedicated wife. He will be remembered as a physician who was not at all interested in making a lot of money but instead was a first class caretaker. He will be greatly missed.

June 24, 2011

Carolyn, I am so deeply sorry about Frank's death. Nikki and I have so many fond memories of time spent with Frank, Kim and you when Bill was alive. He was such a kind and caring person and my thoughts and prayers will be with you, Kim and your family in the days to come. May God's abounding love and guidance sustain you. Love. When I was in clinicals as a nurse in 1991, I had the honor of taking care of Dr. Maranto's patient. His care and bedside manner was second to none and was my first patient/MD experience and has forever been in my mind and heart. He helped me be that caring nurse I am today. Since, I had the pleasure of meeting and being treated by his great nephew and would always ask about Dr. Maranto. I am very saddened by the loss of such a great man but, have no doubt that he sits at the right hand of the father. You and yours are in my thoughts and prayers. S. Watkins, LPN

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Dr. Frank Melvin Maranto, MD our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Dr. Maranto. And to Dr. Maranto it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Vietnam War while serving as a medical doctor in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Maranto, we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,307 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Dr. Maranto’s family and loved ones.
