Genevieve Bryson Obituary

Genevieve Molt Bryson

Shreveport, LA. - Mrs. Bryson passed away at the age of 101 on May 14, 2013. Graveside services celebrating the life of Genevieve Molt Bryson will be held on May 18, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park Cemetery. Officiating will be Dr. Pat Day and Dr. Will K. Andress.

Genevieve was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on February 8, 1912, to the late Celia Stammers Molt and August J. Molt. In 1920, the family moved to Shreveport when Mr. Molt became an executive with Frost Lumber Industries. Mrs. Bryson was preceded in death by her husband Albert E. Bryson, who for many years was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana and practiced law until the time of his death. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Marjorie Molt Downer. In her early years, Mrs. Bryson was valedictorian of the 1930 class of C.E. Byrd High School. She later attended Centenary College where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. After her marriage, she was a homemaker. At the time of her death, Mrs. Bryson was the longest continuing member of First United Methodist Church of Shreveport. Genevieve was confirmed in 1926 and has remained a member for 87 years. She was also a charter member of Quid Nunc Literary Society.

Survivors include a niece, Retired Texas Supreme Court Justice Barbara Culver Clack of Midland, Texas; and her son, Bryson Culver; close relative, Judge Eugene W. Bryson, Jr., and wife, Charlotte, of Shreveport; and numerous other relatives in the Shreveport-Greenwood area. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Seborn Woods, her doctor for many years and William C. Gerardy, her financial advisor. In addition, the family is grateful for the care given by the staff at Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital and Life Care Hospital. Lastly, her family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Sheron Horton, Edie Horton, Mary Waring and Tennise Jackson for the wonderful love and attention they have provided Genevieve over many years. The family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Shreveport, LA., 500 Common Street, Shreveport, LA. 71101.
