Joann Vekovius Obituary

Joann "Situ" Sonom Vekovius

Shreveport, LA - A memorial service celebrating the life of Joann "Situ" Sonom Vekovius, 76, will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, December 22, 2017 in Frost Chapel at First Baptist Church, Shreveport with Ronney Joe Webb officiating.

Joann was born on June 8, 1941, in Detroit, MI, to George and Sara Sonom and entered eternity with the Lord on December 15, 2017. A graduate of Wayne State University, she worked at Crystal Oil Company and Bryan Vekovius, MD. When able, she attended Word of Life Church. Situ always paid attention to the details of those she loved and took every opportunity to make them feel special and unique. She had the most amazing sense of humor and infectious laugh. Her greatest love was her family.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents, George and Sara Sonom and her brother, Ronald Sonom. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Bryan Vekovius and wife, Stephanie and Stephen Vekovius and wife, Kecia; grandchildren: Will, Nathan, Sam, Sophia, and Vivian; siblings, Lillian Macoule and Donald Sonom; sisters-in-law, Mary Z. Sonom and Mary A. Sonom; nieces: Debbie Sonom, Sara Rae Sonom, and Ruth Ann Sonom; and special family friend, Rodney Sermons.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Richard Sipes and all of the doctors, nurses and professionals for their excellent care and compassion given to her over the last few years.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Brian and Stephen. Sorry I am so late in writing. I was your Mother's supervisor at Crystal. What a special worker and person to know. I have great memories of her as an employee.

Dear Family,
I was a coworker of JoAnn's at LSU. She always had a happy spirit about her. I believe that she touched more lives than you may be aware of. My sister Cynthia Britt was very thankful for the help JoAnn gave her on her financial experience with LSU. She thought much of JoAnn though she never met her. Those of us who worked with JoAnn in Hospital Billing will mourn along with you in her passing, but rest assured she is in no pain or stress now that she is with the Lord, her faith sustained her!

Brian and family, I am saddened to hear about Joann's passing. I will always remember her as someone who loved the Lord and loved her family. She was always good to my boys. Praying for your comfort during this time of loss.
