Sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was a classmate of mine in Napoleon Public School.

To Bob's children,
I received a phone call this afternoon from a friend of mine in Florida who saw Bob's obituary in the Shreveport Times. I was sad to hear of your Dad's recent passing. I knew your Dad when he was stationed at Barksdale AFB as he and my ex-husband, James Kappus, were best friends at Barksdale and Bob was Jim's best man at our wedding in October 1968. I was surprised to learn that Bob had become a "Texas" man as I didn't know where he was living. Losing a parent is always difficult, especially when they have suffered for so long. I pray that Bob is at peace now and that his family has wonderful memories of him. If someone will call me and give me an address, I have a couple of pictures of Bob that I'd like to send to someone in the family. Bob was a really funny and great guy. You may call me at (318) 395-5121 (Jonesboro, LA) or e-mail me at [email protected] with an address and I'll be happy to share these pictures with you.
With deepest sympathy,
Marsha Spring Kappus

My condolences to Robert's family. He was in our class in New Salem, ND when his dad was the policeman here. Our class talked often about him and always wondered where he was. He lived just down the street from me. I loved his sense of humor. I want to thank his sister, Laura, for letting me know about him. God's blessings to his family.

I was so fortunate to have known Bob for many years on a professional level and most importantly on a personal level . He never ceased to make me laugh whenever we were at work or hanging out. I enjoyed many Mexican/Margarita nights with him and Rita when she was alive. I know how much he loved his family as he told me many times over the years how much they meant to him. I am so glad that he was able to live closer to them and spend precious time with them, I know that made him very happy. I can just see him in Heaven, cowboy hat and all. I love you my friend, rest well, pain free at last.

The Final Salute
Brothers in Arms, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to Robert Clarence (Bob) Groskreutz our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Bob. To Bob it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Vietnam War while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Bob, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 961 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Bob's family and loved ones.
