Janet Marie Benitez

84, A Retired Teacher and Lifelong Island Resident Janet Marie Benitez (nee: Kelly), 84, of Tottenville, Staten Island, passed away on December 12, 2022 at Morristown Medical Center. Janet was a lifelong Staten Islander, born and raised in Tottenville and lived there her whole life. Janet briefly joined the convent for six years before deciding she wanted to start a family. She pursued a career in education and was an elementary school teacher for twenty 25 years at P.S.16. Janet enjoyed spending time with her family and took great pride in her children and all their accomplishments. She enjoyed vacationing with her family, most notably at Long Beach Island. She also enjoyed hosting holidays. Janet is pre-deceased by her husband, Ronald S. Benitez and her siblings, James Kelly, Thomas Kelly, and Irene Hanley. She is survived by her brother, William Kelly and her 8 children; Dr. Ronald P. Benitez (Elizabeth), Maureen Fries (Harold), James Benitez (Barbara), Kathleen Lemmon (Richard), Timothy Benitez (Valerie), Margaret Cedeno (Rickie), William Benitez (Patricia), and Sean Benitez Benitez (Kari). She is also survived by her 20 grandchildren. Funeral from Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home on Friday 10:30AM. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Help of Christian's RC Church at 11:00Am.
