Thomas S. Pride Marine surveyor, respected yacht broker, 'a beach boy at heart' Thomas S. Pride, 75, passed away in his sleep July 24, 2021 in Bradenton, Florida after a short illness. Son of Thomas and Dorothy Pride, born December 30, 1945 in Staten Island, NY. Tom grew up in New Dorp Beach and graduated from New Dorp High School. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated from City College of New York majoring in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, Tom worked as a civilian engineer for the US Navy involved with its nuclear submarine design program and combat survivability of the Navy's surface ships in warfare. While on assignment, Tom lived in Portsmouth New Hampshire, San Francisco and Washington DC. Tom's passion was marine architecture, sailboat racing and luxury power yachts. On leaving the Navy Department, Tom became a marine surveyor and earned his Captain's license. He was a highly respected yacht broker in west central Florida. Tom was a "beach boy" at heart. He loved the water, was a Staten Island lifeguard and swam on his college swim team. He was a Boy Scout reaching the rank of Eagle and played high school football all while driving his family wild playing the trombone. Tom married Christine McKenna in 1997 and lived in Bradenton, Florida. He is survived by Chris, a brother Raymond and his two sons Michael and Kevin from a previous marriage with Alice Hansen. He was predeceased by his parents and a younger brother, Robin. A service for Tom is planned for a later date.
