SIDNEY — Dr. Phillip Anthony Edwards, 62, of Sidney, went to be with the Lord at 11 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2018. After a year-long fight against angiosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer, his battle ended at the Cleveland Clinic, where he had been undergoing treatment over the course of his illness.
Phil was born on April 25, 1956, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Gerald (Barb) Edwards and the late Leona (Williams) Edwards.
On Aug. 28, 1976, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Vicki Lynn Kigar, who survives along with their three children, Aaron (Kelly) Edwards and Erik (Holly) Edwards, both of Sidney, and Amy (Steve) Frazier, of Columbus; grandchildren, Clayton, Carter and Callie Edwards, Wesley and Will Frazier, and Rhiannon Edwards; siblings, Sherry Martinez, Simon (Kelly) Edwards, Theresa Edwards, Beth (Mike) McGirt, Kris Edwards, and Kim (John) Lutheran; parents-in-law, Richard and Alice Kigar; sister-in-law, Julie (Tim) Leffler; brother-in-law, Rich (Diana) Kigar; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Dr. Edwards held degrees from the University of Toledo and Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served the Shelby County community for many years through his private practice, Orthopedic Associates Inc., as well as through Wilson Memorial Hospital, Upper Valley Medical Center and Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was most recently practicing at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine specializing in total joint replacement. He loved being a surgeon and improving the health and quality of life of others.
He also held a degree from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and was a driving force behind his sons' professional development. He was a perpetual student, always striving to learn and explore new topics. He enjoyed traveling and attending concerts with Vicki, his beloved wife of 42 years, and he was a passionate Ohio State Football fan who rarely missed a game in the Shoe. He was a loving provider who doted on his children and grandchildren, taking interest and pride in each of their pursuits. Most of all, he was a man of God with deep and steadfast faith in Jesus Christ.
Phil was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Sidney, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at 10 a.m., with Pastor James Alter officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave.
The family respectfully requests no flowers, but rather consider a memorial contribution to Grace Baptist Church - "Building Fund" in Phil's memory.
Guestbook condolences and expressions of sympathy may be made to the Edwards family at the funeral home's website, www.cromesfh.com.

Vicki & Family,
Although it has been a couple years, the pain of Phil's passing and the memories of his life are still present. I did not know Phil well(we graduated 1 year apart from Delta HS, and worked at the same company for a summer or 2 during college), but I did know he constantly happy & joyful, extremely intelligent, and most importantly was a God loving man. Phil was always smiling, joking, and enjoyed making others laugh. May all of your beautiful memories of Phil continue to provide strength and hope daily. God bless you all.

First of all , to the entire family of this gentle, kind, empathetic surgeon who always had a sense of humor, please accept my heartfelt sympathy, Dr. always treated me with respect as I did him. He treated my dad with the utmost respect when I took him to his Sidney office, always threw in a few (age specific) jokes and made my dad feel very comfortable. He will be missed, GOD BLESS Dr.Edwards as I was not even aware he was sick. Rest in peace I am a nurse who enjoyed working with him at UVMC when he seen patients there. Truly a special Dr.God Bless him

I have fond memories of the Edward family...photographing them twice at their home & later on their 3 children's Senior pictures. In 2015 when I lost my wife Patty, Aaron & Erik were a comfort to me thru that process. Mark Hand

Dr. Edwards was an excellent surgeon. A plate and 7 screws used to repair my broken leg 18 years ago have never bothered me. Dr. also had a great sense of humor and a keen interest in learning about new subjects. He is missed.
